Marquette Game

Xavier would finish the season 20-12, 10-8. Lunardi has them as a 9 seed before loss to SH. I would think that they still make it but wouldn't put them as a lock, three straight losses I would think they drop from a 9 seed to one of the last teams in.

We could potentially pass them in the RPI if they lose the next two and we win the next two. A home loss for them will hurt and a road win againt a top 80 rpi team will be a big boost followed by a neutral court win over a top 100 team. I still think they are a pretty safe bet. They can hand their hat on the dismantling of Cincy and the Creigton win.

Also, their road win against us is actually being considered a good win. I think prior to that they really hadn't beat anyone on the road.

Unfortunately they beat us twice. They are the only Big East bubble team to do that.

We could face them in the BET tourney and exact revenge. There are so many possible outcomes right now it's crazy. At the end of this weekend it will be much clearer what we and the other bubble teams need to do.

If Kemba Walker could put a so-so Uconn team on his shoulders and 'march' them through the "old" BET and the NCAAs, why can't DLo go on a magical run, averaging 26 ppg, 7 boards, Rysheed 8 assists, and maybe we can do some serious damage.... you never know. We're deep, we defend and block shots, we have athletes, we can hit our FTs.......miracles do happen. Remember the glass is twice as large as it needs to be, not half empty.

Kemba Walker and DLo are not in the same galaxy.
Don't have to be. He did say "magical" run! :)

3-6 is an absolute log jam. Xavier will most likely end up 10-8 unless they can steal one vs Nova, Providence will also most likely end up 10-8 as they play @ Creighton. We can finish 10-8 as well with a win at Marquette Saturday. I know that Xavier wins the tie breaker against us but who wins a tie breaker between us and Providence? Who wins a tie breaker between Xavier and Providence (they split too.) Right now I'm seeing us playing Marquette in the 4-5 game with a win, or does Marquette drop down to the 6 seed and we play Xavier or Providence in the 4-5 game?

It's a shame we have reached the point of making all sorts of calculations on what possible scenarios need to happen for us to get to the big dance. You have to win important games to be a contender and other than a nice win against Creighton and a must have win against G'town and Providence, it hasn't gotten done..

Weak O0C schedule and losses to Depaul and Providence hurt and not holding homecourt against Villanova and Xavier are why we are on the bubble, outside looking in. It would have helped immensely if we had beaten Creighton at Creighton. Close, it was..

A few years ago a 9-9 UCONN Team caught fire and won the BE on the way to the NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP.. We're not a NCAA championship Team but, we could surprise in the BE tourney but, this team hasn't shown much in big games so far. That's a fact.

Sometimes you have to step up. NOW , WOULD BE GOOD.
Not a weak out of conference schedule, Wisconsin, Syracuse are possibly going to be top 2 seeds, played an ACC team and Big 10 team.

TOP 2 SEEDS? Neither Wisc or Syracuse will be top 2 seeds at this point.. And, we lost to both..Also lost to a Big 10 doormat, Penn State.. Wagner, Longwood, Monmouth, Fordham are wins that don't help, other than to say "cupcake."
Thanks for putting it in caps, yes top 2 seeds, absolutely, Lunardi has them both as 2 seeds, they are both in top 6 in RPI. Negative posters keep saying 1-7 against 1-50, while factually accurate, the fair analysis is 1-5 against top 10, keep up with the negativity. Don't forget San Fran is at 70.

You can call posters "negative", I, OTOH, would consider myself more objective than negative.

Truth be told, had we taken care of business vs Penn State and DePaul, we wouldnt even be having the 1-5 vs the top 10 or 1-7 vs the top 50 conversation - we would be in the tournament at the moment with a chance to improve our seeding by beating Marquette and winning in the BET.

The structure of our schedule is set up where there are not a lot of top 50 games, and the ones that are, are, unfortunately, vs the top 10. Due to the lack of success in those games, that means there was very little margin for error in the remaining games, which means winning against depaul and PSU were absolute musts, and with our losses in those games, we have put ourselves on the outside of the NCAAs with a game vs Marquette that does nothing for us if we win but will just move us further down the ladder if we lose. What happens if we beat PC and Villanova in the Big East then lose to a Marquette team that got in the BET in the final? Do we get a bid then because we made it to the BET Title game?

Our OOC was maybe not "weak", but due to the split of the football schools from the old Big East, we are now playing against Creighton, Xavier & Butler instead of UConn, Pitt, ND, Louisville, Cincinnati, West Virginia. No disrespect to our new Big East representatives, but we do not get as many "quality" games (Top 50 games?). in 2010-11 we were 9-8 vs the top 50, so even with a loss to Fordham that season, we had such a padded resume', we can compensate for that loss with the top 50 record....not the case this season.

We just need to win the Big East. Its on our home court and none of these teams are unbeatable. We leave no doubts then.

Our projected RPI if we beat Marquette: 56. If we lose: 69. Source:http://www.rpiforecast.com/cgi-bin/rpiwizard.cgi … #sjubb

IF? STJ matches up so well with Marq. this is a win.

It'll be Senior Day at the Bradley Center so the place will be loud...plus Gardner is a fat load of skill down low. Hopefully Primo & Gift can rap him in the head with a ratchet and Obekpa can swat whatever shots he does get up.

Let's also hope Mayo didn't regain any, kind of confidence after his game against Providence. If Marquette isn't hitting from the outside, then I have a good feeling about this one.

It's gonna be tough, as Marquette is having 'Senior Day;' home game, of course; and they are, like us, fighting for their NCAA lives. We're gonna come out and play ball. The loser of this game is gonna have to win the Big East Tournament, in order to get an NCAA bid. Let's make sure that kinda pressure is on "Curly Howard" and his gang.

I hate I'm going to miss this game. My son is participating in an all-star basketball tournament an hour (and change) away from our area. Kudos to him and the other kids. But the timing freakin' sucks, man.

MJ, same here. My kid's Saturday morning hoops camp doesn't end til 1 and by the time I get home I'll miss most of the game. Hopefully my twitter feed will be all good things!

You, at least, may catch some of the game. I'm not gonna be able to see one second of it. Sucks for both of us, huh? LOL

I, actually missed the first game against Marquette, as my son had a game during the same time. Hopefully, the Johnnies play a similar game. :ngrin:

I'm sure you and I would be fine with a victory, while watching our children participate in something constructive. I'll be sure to do lots of texting to a few of my brethren throughout the game this weekend. ;)

DVR gents!

Agree. But I never invested in one. Figured, I could catch a replay of it like I did when we played Marquette the first time.

Doesn't your cable company offer DVR service? It doesn't cost much - $10 per month in NY for optimum, and I think $5 for DVR plus which allows you to view on any set in your house.

I don't like this game because we played poorly vs. Nova and Xavier with everything to gain. I just have a feeling the air is out of the balloon.

You have to get a DVR box, just a great invention. It comes in handy for the exact situtaion you are in. Turn your cell off, and go home and watch the STJ game-- it will be like you are watching it live.

@NYPost_Brazille: Steve Lavin says everyone practiced this week and is good to go for Marquette. #sjubb

LOL

I'm very, familiar with DVR. Thanks, though! Besides, it would be impossible for me to not want to know the score of a game. Especially, with a the magnitude of the game this weekend. No way would I not try to find out the score.... DVR or not.

Lastly, I just like watching a game when it's being televised.
