LoVett

You gotta think by know his handlers are not letting him play. No other plausible explanation.

Even if that is the case and I am not saying it is not, it still makes no sense.

Handlers? He's a 22 year old man. If he's healthy and choosing not to play, it's on him. I'm not convinced that's the case, but who knows.

As I was saying .............

This is the kid that begged Mullin to wear his #20?
Gotta be more serious than a sprain.

What is the reason everyone is ass-u-me "ing" he will not be playing at St. johns next year?

No decision has been made going forward of Marcus LoVett's status within the program, I'm told. #sjubb. It was always seen as unlikely he would be back next year.

Also noted ML was cleared to play a month ago.

Really confusing. Cleared to play a month ago and sat on the bench cheering his teammates on.

This was obvious & lousy

The announcement by Marcus LoVett's dad caught the staff off guard. There was no discussion about him being shut down internally. #sjubb

Very disappointing the staff didn’t better prepare for this. They can’t be completely shocked, given the issues with him last year. Roster would’ve been thin even with him.

Unfortunately I have said this too many times concerning this program over the past decade or so and now once again I say “You can’t make this stuff up!!!!!!!!!!”

What a disappointment this season has become. The highlight of the season will be the Nebraska game. Not sure where we go from here. I will enjoy the rest of the NFL season and now looking forward to opening day at Citi Field.

This SJU season has made being a Knick fan seem like not the worst fate in the world...

This should not have been a surprise to the staff. A few days ago I stated "The decision not to play is not being made by Mullin or the team doctors who are affiliated with one of the best hospitals in the country. Mullin is caught between a rock and a hard place. It is Lavar Ball cringe worthy."
There were rumblings amongst some very close to the program that although cleared to practice he was being directed not to by his inner circle. That he refused to take part in simple non contact shoot arounds was an obvious signal. Thus the additional MRI and scheduled work out with the coaches. Pushed to shit or get off the pot they chose to get off the pot.
Even if Lovett truly felt uncomfortable and fearful of further injury he way he and his family handled this is disrespectful to the teammates that he was sitting with at team meals and trips.

Why does this not surprise me? The player turnover number with this program is ridiculous. Most schools worry about one and dones and an occasional transfer. St. John’s seems to lose up to 50% of every class because players just don’t stay. Needless to say, that isn’t a recipe for long term success.
Sorry to say, I can’t get excited over the class coming in next year. After they put in a couple of seasons with no discipline issues, no academic issues, and just act like they want to be here...I will be on board.

Anticipate Matt doing a lot of hand holding, assuring with this class also. Hopefully they hang in there and hit campus in the Fall.

Two thoughts: First, I'm assuming that camp LoVett decided after last night's putrid showing that's its not worth risking further injury to Marcus to play for a team that's clearly going nowhere. Second, wasn't Lovett a Lavin recruit? Still feeling the reverberations.

SJU press release

QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 10, 2018) – The St. John’s men’s basketball program has announced that sophomore guard Marcus LoVett will miss the remainder of the 2017-18 campaign due to a left knee injury that he suffered in late November. Team physicians made the decision to sideline LoVett on Wednesday to focus on his rehabilitation, as he was not able to progress to on-court basketball activities.

“Marcus has a bright future ahead, so while it is disappointing that he will miss the remainder of the season, his long term health is the primary focus,” said St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin.

LoVett started all seven of his appearances this season and averaged 14.9 points per game. The Preseason Second Team All-BIG EAST selection dished out 12 assists and recorded 15 steals playing 32.7 minutes per contest.
