LoVett

Exactly. The kid needs to play to have any hope of playing in the NBA or professionally. Pre-Season, He was the one underclassman tabbed after the season as likely to leave for the pros.
It’s obvious he doesn’t think his knee is totally healed yet. And he’s right, that if not and he plays on it and reinjures it—his hopes of any chances for a professional career may disappear.
Give the kid a break.

I’ve asked to speak to Marcus LoVett about knee injury, but St Johns hasn’t made him available. His father hasn’t returned several messages. #sjubb. It’s an odd situation.

That I will agree with very odd. But again until someone can give me a plausible reason for a healthy Lovett not to play I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He sprained his knee on Nov 26. Still isn’t practicing. He tells coaching staff he “feels good.” #sjubb. And yet there has been zero movement on his day-to-day status.

He feels good, cleared by the doctors. Yet he cant even go to the gym and practice shooting .

St John’s guard Marcus LoVett had another MRI this weekend, per source, and saw doctor again yesterday. Nothing has changed with original prognosis. He can practice when he feels up to it, which has yet to happen. #sjubb

Issue clearly is ML does not feel he is ready, right or wrong.

So the doctors cleared him to practice, he must be healthy then.
He's screwing the team.

Some of these posts are nonsense. If you don't know the facts, don't rush to judgment.

I will never knock a kid who is not getting paid to play a game if he does not feel 100 percent.
However, I will say the school is handling this as poorly as possible. There is a lot of speculation going on which is not good for the kid or program. Using the "day to day" is not helping the situation.

If he's telling the staff he "feels good," why would he have gotten a second MRI this past weekend? None of this adds up.

You gotta think by know his handlers are not letting him play. No other plausible explanation.

Even if that is the case and I am not saying it is not, it still makes no sense.

If I remember correctly he injured the same knee in HS. Maybe they don’t want him to risk injury. Whatever the case looks bad for all involved. School is not gonna throw him under the bus, by saying he’s decided not too play.

Honestly when this all happened I just assumed based off his past he was secretly suspended for missing practice or classes. Guess not but at least that makes sense.

Because the staff, which includes the best trainer in the business, want Marcus to have the confidence that he can practice with the team. Unfortunately we have been down this road before with the previous staff with a player whose only goal was to play for money and the team was secondary. I really wish Marcus all the best but realistically he is never going to play in the NBA. Accentuating the emphasis and concern with his knee problem will also reduce his value in the lucrative overseas market. I feel for the staff who have invested a lot of time with him and whose absence will result in a challenging Big East season.

Handlers? He's a 22 year old man. If he's healthy and choosing not to play, it's on him. I'm not convinced that's the case, but who knows.

I tend to come from the belief that these players should be paid for playing college basketball. Now I will also say, if you have zero interest in playing for the school when you have the ability to play just tell us you’re going pro and you don’t want to risk further injury.

Again, I will never knock a brother for securing the bag, but just keep it one hundred with us and let us move on.

Why not just leave now then? Unless if he would only have spot for next year.
Guys that know they will get drafted by NBA don't just sit out the year.

This is how I am dealing with situation as there is nothing I can do to change it. Feel free to read below if you are interested.

I will continue to watch the rest of the games this season on TV when I have free time. I skipped the DePaul game and that was a mental health benefit. I am planning on watching tonight's game. I will only attend another game during the regular season if Lovett comes back or there is a strong improvement in play with the current group. I have written off the season but that happens around this time more seasons then not lately. I will probably attend our BET games as it usually gives me closure. I will come in with new hope next season and will see Mullin's time here through until the end and will give the next coach a chance, however I will gradually try to reduce my time commitment to this habit that I developed as a child and had so many good times with. My children are getting older and maybe I will relocate in the future and I can find another hobby that is more beneficial but I will always bleed red.

Is there a chance it is academic related? And being hushed?

A recent tweet from Marcus suggests that it might be:

"The last time I had this injury I was a freshman (RS) due to academics and I handle that well and came back and played last season now it happens again I'm going to handle it with ease again"
