LoVett

Just wondering - if he does not return shortly will he be eligible to warrant a medical redshirt?

He presently has two years of eligibility after this without a medical redshirt. Most people would be pleasantly surprised if he came back for the 2018-2019 season. Don't think there is any possibility we seen him in a sju uniform in 2019-2020, let alone 2020-2021.

To answer your question, LoVett already had a redshirt year when he sat out his freshman year bc of academics. The NCAA rarely grants a player a sixth year of eligibility. I'm not sure the precise criteria, but I know it's extremely rare.

He turning 22 in March, so I doubt he would stick around for a 6th year.
Why not and on top of that maybe we could convince him to go on a Mormon mission for two years and we can suit him up for the Johnnies when he is 30 years old. ;)

Where is he going to go. Can't see the NBA interested Overseas maybe but he should just stay 2 more yrs up his game so show the NBA scouts that he could play in the next level' His size is the problem

He’s clearly not going to stick around two more years nor should he. But I do think there is a good reason for him to come back for one more year.

Would give him the chance to play a full season healthy. If it turns out really well, maybe he will impress a few scouts and get a look at an NBA team. He could also be one of the catalysts to help revive a moribund program back to prominence, all under the bright lights (that’s his nickname after all) of the country’s top media market.

At a minimum, if he stays healthy, he should be able to enhance his stock overseas. And most importantly perhaps, he’s on target to graduate next year. Don’t underestimate the value of getting a degree especially after he’s worked so hard by all accounts and when it’s right within his grasp.

Okay, I was team R-E-L-A-X. But this is an emergency. Dude needs to see the court now.

Emergency? dude the season is already over, who really gives a crap if he comes back this year.
He'll be gone next year, so just let him be.

Any time you have a Big East Tourney the season is not over. The decision not to play is not being made by Mullin or the team doctors who are affiliated with one of the best hospitals in the country. Mullin is caught between a rock and a hard place. It is Lavar Ball cringe worthy.

Are you saying daddy is calling the shots wheather little sonny plays or not?
If that's the case then get liittle boy off the team now if Marcus can't be his own man.

If what you imply is true, why did Mullin say he is talking with LoVett’s doctors today? I have no basis to disbelieve what you’re saying ‘72, but I’d be curious to know whether you’re speculating here or if you have a source.

Judging by his dance moves during timeouts and warmups I think he should be back relatively shortly.

He was supposedly cleared to practice a week ago. Mullin did not need to talk to the "doctors" after the loss, on a Saturday night, in the dead of winter. Mullin is trying to give the fans hope that is fading fast and trying to put the onus on Lovett. Remember, this was supposed to just be a pit stop to a pro career for Marcus. I think he and his handlers are very concerned about his future and I don't blame them. Had Trimble been anywhere close to the player he was reported to be in pre season the backcourt could have compensated a little better. When 4 of your 5 starters are playing outside waiting for a 3 point opportunity you are not going to grab too many offensive rebounds so Marcus is not the major problem right now but designing plays for the talent on the floor. That is not happening.

Either super thoughtful or total B.S.

The last time I had this injury I was a freshman (RS) due to academics and I handle that well and came back and played last season now it happens again I'm going to handle it with ease again

Not sure what this means in terms of his prognosis to play.

Does not sounds promising

So if he misses the rest or most of the rest of the season it will obviously cost us some wins. It's a shame that doesn't help us in the form of higher draft picks because we could sure use the help.

agreed

Agree. Sounds like a 'half-empty' comment to me--but at this point anything but his return would. This is shaping up to be a very dispiriting' year due to injuries and lack of depth. Praying it ALL comes together next year!

Not to analyze the kid’s tweet too closely, but what’s concerning is that he’s talking about the injury in the present tense.
