LoVett

Thanks for the info Theo. Based on your disclosure, I wouldn't be shocked if we was a mid season transfer who would be eligible to play somewhere else next January. Unless of course, he didn't intend to play till next week and is joining his family with permission in LA for the holidays.

Why would he be a midseaon transfer? For a kid who allegedly is thinking about leaving early to pursue a pro career, transferring to another school and sitting out a year makes absolutely no sense at all.

Here are some possibilities based on the following..... Feel free to come up with your own.

Marcus LoVett was merely given a few extra days off. Entire team will go home for a few days after tomorrow. Knee isn’t getting worse. Hope is he’ll be ready for Big East opener. #sjubb

1 - Determination was made he could not play tomorrow and he took advantage of the opportunity to spend a couple days with his family and get back in time to get ready for the Providence game.
2 - Injury is worse then expected and he has already been ruled out for the Providence and Seton Hall game so he wants some sun before he continues rehab.
2 - Injury is worse then expected and he is seeing a specialist for a second opinion in LA on his own before they all shut down next week.
3 - Injury is worse then expected and doesn't want to make it worse playing for free so he is leaving school and going pro once it heals.
4 - He graduated this semester and is going to be a grad transfer in January for Duke.

Scenarios 2-4 are all concerning. Only time will tell.

A lot of what these kids do and think makes no sense. Maybe he sees being the third guard in a three-guard offense doesn't give him the opportunity to sufficiently show off his skills, especially to run an offense -- something critical, given his size, if he dreams of playing at the pro level. Bottom line: Once again we'll have to wait until things unfold over the next couple of weeks.

There's a lot of pot stirring going on here with no basis to it. An MCL sprain (which I'm guessing it is) can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks to heal, depending on severity. It is also an injury that is tough to play basketball with due to all the hard cutting and quick moves. We don't necessarily need him to play these non-conference games, so why risk further injury?

As for him going to LA, a few extra days with the family during the holidays isn't a crime. I don't know why that is something that is being criticized, but with not needing him for this game and the re-injury risk should make it an easy decision to not have him play, which is what is happening here. He can easily get some treatment at home, plus it's also not a necessity that he get treatment for the 6 days he's home. This in an injury that really needs time to heal.

Also, he is not spending the few days with the team at Mohegan Sun because the team doesn't have the kids travel if they aren't playing. This goes for transfers and redshirts as well, so it's not something out of the ordinary.

The concern is when we hear game time desicion, or he may be ready to play next game and weeks pass. There seems to be a disconnect from the narrative. But, who knows?

Great points, SJU14. Thanks. He needs to heal. These OOC games may be good for the resume--but it's critical he rejoin us--healthy and rarin'-to-go very early in the BE Season. Our entire year hinges on Marcus returning healthy and on not having any more lingering injuries.

There's NFL players that are questionable to play for 6 weeks and never play. Everybody recovers differently and this is an injury that has different levels of severity which could be why this is happening.

Marcus is resting his knee and getting ready for the Big East Games. Marcus isn't leaving St. John's - he loves this team, coaches and school. No other bigger spotlight then playing @ the Garden and Ponds - Relax everyone

It's also possible that by having Marcus's status as "possible" for each game, it requires the other team to prepare for both scenarios (SJU with or without Marcus).....

Lovett hopped a plane for Los Angeles yesterday. On Sunday afternoon, staff said he was "questionable but hopeful" for the St. Joes game. So less than 24 hours later hes purchasing a last-minute flight to LA during holiday season?

Something is rotten in Denmark.

Either injury is worse than suspected or something is going on. If he was actually close to coming back and was starting to participate in practice as staff had noted, he would either be with the team at Mohegan or on campus getting treatment until rest of team breaks for the holidays.

Well Jimmy Olsen those are all possibilities but of course I am looking forward to your complete story with pictures of Marcus shooting hoops at USC and skateboarding down Ventura Boulevard once you get back to the Daily Planet!
BTW, the campus is a ghost town and the treatment folks are playing the horses at Mohegan Sun. God forbid an injured player could join his family for Christmas without conspiracy theos.

Well, Zach just tweeted that Lovett is likely out for tomorrow's game against Providence as well. He last played on 11/26, which means he's been "day-to-day" for about a month now. Which means staff has, at minimum, misled us about the status of his injury. Better to just say "out indefinitely" or "out a few weeks" then for the staff to keep calling him hopeful each game for a month. As they do this, they lose credibility and trust with the public.

It doesn't effect their credibility at all. They're waiting for his knee to feel better. It literally is day-to-day with that sort of injury. It has become week-to-week which is why people have become suspicious, but if it's not healing as fast as anticipate, it might look that way. Knee strains and sprains can improve in 3 weeks or 8. It all depends on the individual. I don't think anybody is attempting to be dishonest. It's always a possibility but I think unlikely. I'm pretty sure Lovett wants to get back on the court more than we want him there. He'd like to make a career of this...

Sounds dramatic! Credibility as far as fans are concerned is primarily one thing: 1) Winning

For die hard fans there is a second: 2) The Program (including Identity/Image/Presentation and program building, sustainability/viability, recruiting).

Short of violations, how a staff wants to play it wrt reporting on internal matters is at their discretion even if it may just be a little gamesmanship, if the opponent has to spend even an extra 10 minutes preparing for some potential eventuality a fanatical competitor will take that and anything else and when you've got an already thin roster it is more significant.

Do we know whats wrong? If its a high ankle sprain these things can linger for quite a while.

Then staff should say hes out indefinitely. Better than calling him "hopeful" and then letting fanbase down. You can play your cards with regards to the opponents gameplanning by just calling his absence indefinite.

Braziller
St. John's coach Chris Mullin on Marcus LoVett: "When he's heathy, he'll play. He's working is way back. He has to get his body ready." #sjubb. Said LoVett didn't practice yesterday, but did some shooting.

Those on here should take it easy with just stirring the pot and playing mystery solver. Quit crying over literally nothing. His knee is injured, and they're taking it one step at a time. Keep your source lacking, nonsense TMZ crap to yourself. We have a winning basketball team at the moment and just landed a huge recruit, let's focus on that. Quit the drama.
