LoVett

SJU press release

QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 10, 2018) – The St. John’s men’s basketball program has announced that sophomore guard Marcus LoVett will miss the remainder of the 2017-18 campaign due to a left knee injury that he suffered in late November. Team physicians made the decision to sideline LoVett on Wednesday to focus on his rehabilitation, as he was not able to progress to on-court basketball activities.

“Marcus has a bright future ahead, so while it is disappointing that he will miss the remainder of the season, his long term health is the primary focus,” said St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin.

LoVett started all seven of his appearances this season and averaged 14.9 points per game. The Preseason Second Team All-BIG EAST selection dished out 12 assists and recorded 15 steals playing 32.7 minutes per contest.
Obviously there is no drug testing in the SJU press release department

It should have read " team physicians were asked to sideline LoVett" because although examined and cleared the patient said "I still have pain". Please note ML had no pain partying while no practices were scheduled. Of course this is spin city but whether you are the coach or the doctor you err on the side of caution since the student is the number one priority. I wish Marcus all the best!

Wonder how much longer he'll be a "student"?

The spin doctors at work after the cat is already out of the bag.

If I was the coaching staff I would not allow him to sit on the bench going forward. If he did not want to play to protect himself for financial reasons that is fine but he basically quit on his coaches and more importantly his teammates. There was a better way to handle all of this.

I didn't see him, Saturday, but wasn't he dancing in the stands? The people commenting that with the moves he was doing, he didn't seen to hurt.
Kid should be allowed to watch the games, I'll be glad when he's gone.

He was dancing in warmups Saturday vs DePaul and laughing towards the end of the game when we were getting blown out.

If what Braziller from the Post is saying is true he has no business being on the team going forward.

To Lovett

Resolved, he is out for the season. In his tradition. going to 4 different high schools etc. , should we have expected more ?

Classes for the Spring semester start on January 17th, is Marcus currently enrolled or even eligible?

Yes and yes. Based on the recent developments, the chances he shows up for it or completes it has lessened.

Trash the kid all you want and most of it is probably warranted, but look at the kids twitter, obvious he has strong feelings about the school and coach.

Per Zach
Marcus LoVett's dad tweets his son is done playing for this season. Has been listed day-to-day since Nov. 26 with a sprained MCL. A lot more to come on this. #sjubb

Disrespected school and staff by leaving them out of loop on announcement it appears.

I have a feeling we will never see him in an SJU uni again.
I feel the same way

As was posted prior this injury appears very similar to what Daryl Hill went through. A minor setback that basically ends a career. While we feel bad that the SJU season is over LoVett whose game is built on quickness and speed could see his whole game deteriorating to where he is never the same player.
