LoVett

Yeah, I can appreciate that Marcus would not want to play until he felt he was at top speed, however his convalescence process may be better at StJohns where he presumably has access to physical trainers, orthopedic specialists, and other professionals. By walking away away he seemingly loses access to those free/ available resources. The whole Marcus Lovett departure story doesn’t add up on any front.

As long as LoVett continues to need treatment for his knee, he’s not leaving the program.

Why? There is nothing being provided that he can't get elsewhere. If his sole intention is to rehab for a shot overseas I can't see him staying any longer than necessary. But perhaps he does love his teammates and wants to cheer them on and attends the Spring semester. Who knows. Stranger things have happened at SJ. While many are angry over all that happening I feel bad for all concerned from the coaches, players and us long suffering fans. We've had coke dealing, pot smoking, drunk shit faced players and almost had a transvestite center so Marcus is tame by those standards. I really liked his game and would welcome him back in a New York minute!

Marcus & Tariq Owens were my two favorite players on last year's team and I do not question a player's right to not play until he feels he is ready to. Having said that, if this story has been accurately reported by the Post (unilateral decision to shut down for the year without discussion with staff followed by announcement on twitter without first advising staff of the decision), that is hard for me to understand.

You think there’s any chance be comes back ‘72?

There is no logical reason for him to return unless the feelers his people put out are met with a big LOL. Then he could return but we will know soon enough if that is even a possibility once classes start next week. The staff recruited 6'4 and 6'2 guards in anticipation of him leaving. Having watched Shamorie for two years I can tell you that he is a much better player than we have seen to date. He is also just a kid whereas Marcus is a man. Shamorie has only upsides. If, and when this coaching staff reigns him in he will be terrific as long as he doesn't get discouraged because he was supposed to be the NYC face of the program and lose him and you lose cred in the city. That happens and Mitch and Chris may as well book their tickets back to the west coast.

This reminds me of Lou's last season in 1992, when prior to the NCAAs, most of the team shaved their heads in a sign of unity and brotherhood.

But Rob Werdann and Terrence Mullin did not, presumably because they were looking forward to growing out their summer mullets.

This of course lead to discord in the locker room especially from Jason Buchanan who had shaved off his beloved burgeoning fro. What happened next? A disappointing first round exit at the hands of Tulane and ultimately Lou's early retirement.

Something to keep in mind.
Lou is a great man but he was the master of one and done in the NCAA T. Werdann and T Mullin could have shaved off their pubic hair and we still would have lost.

In fairness it is tough for white guys to pull of the shaved head look. Vin Diesel, Bruce Willis, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kojak that's about it.

Had I made that comment I would have been accused of racism and put on double secret probation.:D
BTW, Vin Diesel is as white as Colin Kaepernick.;) Personally I think Bill Wennington looks great bald.
I would have added Sean Connery, Ben Kingsley, Yul Brynner, Howie Mandel and Larry David, to name few.
The problem with bald white guys is they can't jump!

The Lovett exit makes no sense to me.

If Marcus wants to play professionally next year, and if he is injured for the season as he claims then that would seem to create a cloud over his value as a pro and thereby decrease his value .

Likewise if Marcus has been cleared to play as suggested but still refuses to join his teammates then, if true, that refusal would also seem to deminish his value to pro teams.

In a logical world Marco would want to play this semester, and do the very best he can do to prove his worth and showcase his talents to drive up his pro basketball value..

A year or so ago I posted a dated article about Providence College’s former star God Shamgod who left Providence with visions of NBA fame only to live a lonely vagabond life playing “professional” basketball in China. I do not wish Marco Lovett bad luck but I sincerely doubt he will enjoy fame and fortune in the NBA. I believe that Marcus’ future, as an undersized guard may resemble God Shamgod’s experience.

Ah, this is terrible. I want what is best for the kid. He should heal and stick with the program.

Could it be so simple that he's been sticking around this whole time while injured, with no intentions of playing, for the free access to healthcare and rehab and possibly even surgery, which could be very expensive to pay on his own?

"Professional" basketball players in China earn up to three million "dollars" a year tax free. That's sounds like a pretty good salary for a 22 year old. Of course there is the lonely vagabond life of the professional athlete to consider, travelling first class from hotel to hotel and strange trim to even stranger trim. I don't understand how you don't understand how that might sound intriguing to a young man barely out of his teens. As opposed to living in a dormitory in scenic Jamaica.

Americans working in China are still subject to taxes by Uncle Sam unless they are no longer residents of the U.S. Not as simple as working I. China for a year or two, collecting a tax free salary a d heading back to the US without any tax obligation.

Also, LoVett would not make anything close to $2 million in China to start.

If Lovett wants exotic trim from the Orient, he can save the long journey and just take the bus to Flushing.

I think the Chinese league only allows two foreigners per team so not so easy to get into the league.
