LJ in Transfer Portal?

If LJ goes to texas tech I hope there is some way we can hold him to sitting out for a year. This would be the 2nd player they stole from us. Tarik Turner being the other.
You mean Tariq Owens.

left for a better program, which worked out well for him. Also don’t remember him waiting till the end of May.
.

Owens graduated from SJU. So he owed us nothing.

And if the above reports are true, then looks like LJ will graduate too

Difference though is that it appears LJ has been planning an accelerated completion in order to be a grad transfer without the staff’s knowledge. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was always his plan once he decided to come back last year....
Geech...if it's the coach--why couldn't it have been the coach a month ago? Because LJ wanted to secure more credits to be a Grad Transfer?
LJ is beginning to stretch my patience.
LJ stretching your patience? Or the myriad rumors being circulated about the situation? lol

When another player from another school does the same tomorrow we will all be in line to grab him up.
That's fair, but let's also be realistic. He didn't just wake up Monday morning and decide "I don't like it here anymore." He was in the transfer portal a year ago.

He has every right to do what he's doing. He also deserves all the criticism he gets for handling this in a poor/selfish manner.

I wish him good luck wherever he ends up, but I won't quickly forgive him for how he played this.

Do I sense the Islanders John Taveras?
Not such a mature approach to fail to notify the team.
Oh well I remain “ joyful “ with our coach, staff and direction. We had several pleasant surprises
( Ellington...Champ) last season and may well have a few this year,,,

Interesting comparison, but Tavares was different and worse. He asked not to be traded at the deadline because 'he wanted to be here'. Then he left anyway. "Reviled" isn't a strong enough word for how Islanders fans should view him.

LJ handled this poorly and deserves criticism for it, but in a year he'll be an afterthought.

Excerpt from The Athletic:

I’ll start with L.J. Figueroa, who jumps toward the top of the transfer list now that McClung is off the market. At St. John’s, Figueroa averaged 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds after coming in from junior college. He’s already reportedly heard from a number of suitors, and some think he could use the COVID-19 impact in New York to apply for a transfer. Again, no one knows how the waiver thing will go, though I did just read that Johnny Juzang already has been cleared after leaving Kentucky for UCLA. So, who knows?

OK, so back to matchmaking. The list includes Memphis, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Dayton, Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia Tech, Samford, UCLA and Auburn. I say Memphis. The Tigers lose Precious Achiuwa, who was their primary scorer, and Figueroa could easily slide in there. Also, Penny Hardaway is now grooming NBAers for a side gig (R.J. Hampton), so if the waiver doesn’t come, you get an extra year to learn.

Mac McClung has already transferred to Texas Tech . If LJ winds up there , 2 former BE Scorers likely to throw up a lot of 3’s for Red Raiders . Anyone know the inside story on MCClung opting out of G Town ? Ewing’s program seems to have a lot of discord and other stuff going on
? Between the transfers and Criminal charges against a couple of players , it doesn’t look good . And , Patrick got the Virus too, although he is now recovering . McClung and Figgy are top quality players and not a surprise they were / are highly coveted . There appears to be a new trend is gathering steam in the uptick of Players wishing to transfer .

I just think selfish is a weird word choice coming from fans who selfishly want him at the school so we can all selfishly enjoy a good season.

The biggest issue the fans have is the timing. yes we would "Selfishly" want him back, but his timing is the worst for the team we care about. Especially if the latest tweets about it being about the coach are true. He could have told CMA at the end of the year otr when he declared for the draft that he had no intention of returning. That would have been the right thing to do. Now, this is all based on hearsay. we have no real idea what was said to who and when. All we as fans know is LJ put the program in a bad situation.

Ok, clearly he doesn't owe fans anything. But what about the staff that was holding the spot for him in the event his pro aspirations didn't pan out??
Its kinda like keeping the girl you've been dating, and know you are going to dump in two months, at arms length while you are on every dating app looking for someone to spend New Years Eve with. She's your worst case scenario for the holiday but then you find a hottie on tinder and you dump the GF the day before the big party.
Works out great for you, but not so much for her. That's what makes it selfish.

As for this fan, I would like to have him here because he's a good, not great player. But have no problems with him leaving and our moving forward without him. Just wish he'd handled it better.

Yes,Lj will be throwing up bombs from beyond the 3 and not hitting a very good %
When the season starts mo he will not be missed

36.5% is more than fine.
Is Cole used to being a shooting guard or small forward? Hopefully the latter.
He is a shooting guard but we will play a ton of 3 guard alignments so there will be times he is out there with combos like Dunn/Williams etc. But he will be the starting 2.

LJ was a great player lets not fool ourselves. That being said, he screwed the program the way he handled this. We lost out on potentially good BE players. I also feel that he's been playing with this idea back and forth to get out of here for two years now. Again, don't want a player here if doesn't want to be here. Great player yes, parting words for him....peace! See ya!! Next!

LJ is a good not great player. The word "great" should not be used lightly.

i know fans are pissed. but please stop minimizing his importance to this team.

LJ made plays when we needed them. he hit shots when we needed them. he hussled. he played hard.

is he an nba player? no. is he an all time johnnie great? maybe.

but st. john's is in ZERO position to lose a player like him.

WE ARE NOT GREAT.

I didn't sense bill was minimizing Figueroa's importance to the team. You're arguing a point he never made.

He simply said, "Figueroa is a good player, not great." I agree with him. And, that isn't minimizing what he meant to our squad. This is coming from someone who wished LJ was coming back for his senior season.

I also do not lightly toss around the word, "great." IMO, Figueroa wasn't a "maybe" as far as Johnnies greats are concerned. Please! Not even close. Sorry.

No, we aren't "great," which is another point that wasn't mentioned or debated. But neither is Figueroa. He is (or was) a solid player for us.
