LJ in Transfer Portal?

Where is Nebraska on that list? I wouldn't put it past that sleeze-bag from being in LJ's ear since February 2019 while still be paid by us as an AC.

They throw tens of thousand around like it's Penny's. Oh wait, it is Penny's.

The usual $uspects. Certainly lends credence to what i was saying; that if a pro contract doesn't materialize, LJ stands to fare very well in college ball now that he's made himself in to what is essentially a free agent.

Zach brought up a good point: We'll miss LJ's and Nick R's 'D'. Hopefully the core guys and the newbies step up. Posh and Wusu?

I am not happy or mad about LJ leaving. It happens all of the time to all programs. It just seems like it happens more to SJ because we are so close to it. LJ, I loved you while you were a Johnny, but don't let the door hit you on the way out. You wanted out, now be gone.

I root for the University not the individuals. The program is bigger than any one player and that is much a function of CMA as this has not always been the case in SJ's recent history. I like what we are building and I want players who want to play for our school. LJ seemed to always be on the fence. Now we can cut the cord and move on. The timing is not optimal but better to have an open scholie than have a disgruntled player in the locker room. We will be a much more cohesive unit. Hoping we play next year.

It's be a real bitch if he goes to TT, gets a waiver, and plays against us next season

I don't see him sitting out next year under any circumstance. If he stays in college, I believe that Covid will give him an instant excuse for a waiver. I don't think he stays in college if he's got to sit a year.

Thought Miami and Maryland might be involved. Don't know what they are paying these days, but perhaps the list grows.

I would hope we at least put a restriction with teams on our schedule. It’s not unrealistic or over the top request.

How? That is the whole point of the Portal vs Asking for a formal release when you transfer. No more "needing permission." The only restrictions are conference rules.

This was the whole point of the Portal, gives players freedom. They no longer need to ask for permission. Just give the school compliance 48 hour notice of intent and then they can drop their name in the Portal. The flip side with no permission needed no need for the coach to release a kid from his scholarship. They don't have that power anymore. Think about it, you think Matt Painter likes the fact that Nojel Eastern left Purdue for a conference rival, Michigan? Probably not. So what can he do about it since the B10 no longer has intra-conference trnasfer rules? Nothing. Old days he could refuse to release Eastern unless he approves of the school and without a release the kid cannot go on scholarship to his next school.

I doubt defense is going to be an issue. I don't remember any of Anderson's teams forgetting how to play defense after their stars graduated or left the program.

He recruits guys who work hard and play defense. If that's not in their DNA he doesn't go after them. It will take time to get all the roles sorted out and for chemistry to be developed, but defense is literally the last thing I'd be worried about with a CMA team.

Decent assessment, although i would not be so quick to call Cole a better shooter simply because he shot it at a higher % in JC. There's a huge difference in defense between JC and the Big East.[/quote]

That's fair. I also wouldn't be so quick to label LJ as more athletic than Cole. Candidly, LJ is an average athlete for his size. Not a great leaper or noticeably faster than most players. For me, the thing that made him a good player at this level was his game IQ and his ability to score in unconventional ways.

Because it’s happens? Is that a good enough reason? If LJ wants to play next year SJU can support him. He can’t transfer to BE school because of rules in place. You mention the B10 which has always been an outlier. If he plans to sit out a year different story but we all know that’s bull. Sure LJs camp can push back and a discussion can happen. If I was CMA I would saw good luck but not anyone on the schedule. It’s happened before plenty of times.

I' must be missing something.

Once he is in the Portal neither SJU nor Anderson can place any restrictions on him. Period.

Now if he requests a waiver the outgoing school is not obliged to support it.

Maybe I’m missing something. Maybe it was under the table dealings? Thought it was common practice when kids were trying to get immediate eligibility. Yes we support your claim but out of respect stay away from scheduled teams. 330 plus schools out there. Staying away from the at most 3-5 non conference schools shouldn’t be over the top.

If he goes to Tech he vaults past Nuri and Lovett then for sole place on the top of my list

Didn't Cleveland State squash Dunn's transfer waiver request last year until the twitterverse called them on it??
