LJ in Transfer Portal?

“Figueroa’s departure raises the significance of elite junior college recruit Vince Cole, a sharpshooting wing and first team JUCO All-American. Sophomore Marcellus Earlington and freshman Julian Champagnie should also see more time on the wing as well. St. John’s is planning to fill the open scholarship made available by Figueroa’s departure, and is still evaluating several possibilities, according to sources.“

Reason for transfer the impact of the corona virus in NY? That excuse might have been viable 6 weeks ago. 4.1% in Oregon to 1% in NY currently.
What a lame bullshit excuse
Either man up and tell us the real reason for the move or just keep your mouth shut
This makes you look really stupid, LJ
When Tariq Owens left I was very disappointed. We were an NCAA tournament team and with Tariq we could have possibly gone into the second weekend. He was the defensive rim protector we sorely lacked. He got good pt and was a key part of the offense. However, he got little if any off season coaching, the 7 month period where you should make the biggest jump yearly. Our staff was for all intensive purposes absent and Tariq became the player he did through his own hard work and determination.
All of that changed with CMA’s arrival. We have 4 or 5 coaches always present who are working with the team throughout the entire year. The player improvement of Williams, Roberts, Earlington, Champagnie, Dunn, Caraher, Rutherford was just remarkable. If you didn’t improve it was because you didn’t put the effort in or didn’t listen. LJs departure hurts more because he had the caring devoted staff that tried to make LJ a better player and person both on and off the court.
Oregon, Auburn and Memphis all have one thing in common.
Guess what ?

Haven’t posted much lately. I am still concerned about the ability to play games this season, particularly in front of fans.

Taking an optimistic view and the season gets played without much disruption I am not at all disappointed by LJ transferring. I never thought he was coming back and I love our coach and will be excited to see the teams evolution.

Advisors are supposed to be smarter than the kids they advise. Not too sure about this case

I can’t see how he gets a waiver on those grounds and hope he doesn’t. Sit a year buddy...

LJ never seemed comfortable in Anderson's system. LJ's shooting suffered and I'd guess his confidence did too. He took so many wild shots that left me shaking my head. What was he thinking? He often passed up opportunities to Assist open players and took questionable shots that bounced off the rim. Coach Anderson couldn't have been happy with him.

I suspect he wouldn't have been relied on as much next season. Mike has other scoring options. Players that need developing so they can contribute even more in 2022.

I wouldn't be surprised if LJ sits a season. I don't see any justification for a wavier. The NCAA may see it differently.

Maybe this was a trade--we get better Nike gear and Nike U (aka-Oregon) gets player??
PS--when does this soap opera end?

I still believe he was unhappy with his playing time. As previously posted he was substituted early in quite a few games. And not necessarily for being in foul trouble. Just my opinion.

Correct. He wants to play 35 minutes a game and show off for the nba. Coach mike would have none of it.

If he was a superstar, I am sure mike would have found a way to keep him happy. But figgy is not that therefore, coach saw no need to relent.

Dana Altman tells me that Oregon is still awaiting word from the NCAA on whether or not St. John's transfer L.J. Figueroa will be eligible to play in 20-21. Ducks have filed a waiver.

Personally I hope LJ gets the waiver. I mean he is not with SJU so what does it matter. I also hope he realizes his NBA dream.

All that being said I see no reason whatsoever that looks or feels like he should get a waiver. What exactly are his reasons? If he gets one, I never want the NCAA to ever block a waiver again. What’s the point? Let’s jusT have free agency in college sports. You don’t like your situation at SJU transfer to oh say GTOWN. Duke has an open spot? Let e’m go! Otherwise we are just having people lie so that they can transfer and that doesn’t help anyone.

They should just cite all the hard work they put into sneaking around, and state that because of it he should be eligible immediately. At least that's more truthful than what the story being told to the NCAA is.
