LJ in Transfer Portal?

Time to move on. Lots of talent but I honestly am very happy to leave this year to other kids who want to be here. Took more bad shots this past year than anyone else and it wasn't close.

St. John’s transfer LJ Figueroa is heading to Oregon. HUGE pickup for Dana Altman — especially if Figueroa gets a waiver to play this season for the Ducks. Averaged 14.5 points and 4.5 boards last season.
Oregon also has Eugene Omoruyi, a very good power forward from Rutgers, who sat out this past season as a transfer and will be eligible at Oregon next season.

I won’t feel bad if he doesn’t get a waiver. Left us too late to adjust and replace him adequately.

Appears to have been poorly handled by LJ all around. Was a big fan of his two years ago. Last year developed an addiction to the floater, 90% of which never had a chance to go in. Repeatedly turned good moves into terrible shots. Can only imagine he heard about it from CMA but just couldn't stop. Think the team will be better without him with the talent that's developed and the new guys. Enjoying being a duck!

“Figueroa’s departure raises the significance of elite junior college recruit Vince Cole, a sharpshooting wing and first team JUCO All-American. Sophomore Marcellus Earlington and freshman Julian Champagnie should also see more time on the wing as well. St. John’s is planning to fill the open scholarship made available by Figueroa’s departure, and is still evaluating several possibilities, according to sources.“

I realize they are granting waivers to just about everyone, but on what grounds does a kid from Lawrence MA get a pass this late in the process to move across the country for "circumstances beyond his control?" Statements surrounding this have been very vague, and it seems when we've had transfers in the recent past looking for a waiver, the story line/hardship was very well known.

I'm just glad the whole stupid ordeal is finally over. If Cole is willing to get after it on D, we'll be fine. Working off the premise that Dunn, Williams, and Cole are starters, I think Cole and a healthy Williams will give us enough points between those two positions.

And I'm happy to see the clock start on Wusu sooner. I don't think he gets much time at all with Figgy here.

He's going to claim he wanted back in, but St. John's, by still recruiting, was closing the door on him. He conveniently left out how he left the team high and dry by leaving so late. I don't think CMA would actively try to prevent the waiver, but I assume he'll give the NCAA the whole story if they come asking.

Doesn’t deserve a waiver

Reason for transfer the impact of the corona virus in NY? That excuse might have been viable 6 weeks ago. 4.1% in Oregon to 1% in NY currently.

This guy is FOS! He did the same thing last year and maybe this time CMA just said "adios amigo" and went to work filing the roster. Maybe Figueroa will write a book and be our Bolton. Because the book will likely earn him more than his basketball career will over the rest of his life.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, then it's a duck.

And if it forces underhanded flip shots from 12-feet out?
The only thing out of control was his shot selection
Georgetown game at MSG, he shot two for seventeen, probably due to circumstances out of his control.

What a lame bullshit excuse
Either man up and tell us the real reason for the move or just keep your mouth shut
This makes you look really stupid, LJ

When Tariq Owens left I was very disappointed. We were an NCAA tournament team and with Tariq we could have possibly gone into the second weekend. He was the defensive rim protector we sorely lacked. He got good pt and was a key part of the offense. However, he got little if any off season coaching, the 7 month period where you should make the biggest jump yearly. Our staff was for all intensive purposes absent and Tariq became the player hid did through his own work and determination.
All of that changed with CMA’s arrival. We have 4 or 5 coaches always present who are working with the team throughout the entire year. The player improvement of Williams, Roberts, Earlington, Champagnie, Dunn, Caraher, Rutherford was just remarkable. If you didn’t improve it was because you didn’t put the effort in or didn’t listen. LJs departure hurts more because he had the caring devoted staff that tried to make LJ a better player and person both on and off the court.
Oregon, Auburn and Memphis all have one thing in common.
Guess what ?
