LIU Brooklyn, Sun. Dec. 11, 12 Noon, FS1/970AM

I can't wait to wear my St. John's sweatshirt and go to the Carrier Dome to watch the Syracuse v. St. John's game.

Sadly Otis, I think you are safe. I think the only people who pay attention to our team is us on this board. Our decent to irrelevancy is just about complete. Not even sure where we go from here. I still have hope for CM but outside of the fact he is CM what exactly have we seen that says he is the one?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. When your last NCAA Tournament win was in 2000, you cease to be a relevant program.

Regarding CM, I respect the guy. But he is so in over his head, it's actually painful to watch. I think his tenure will be another rough chapter for St. John's.

SHOULD HAVE KEPT SLICE AND GAVE HIM MORE COACHING IMPUT

THAT WOULD HAVE DONE IT. WE'D PROBABLY BE 10-1 WITH HIS RECORD OF COACHING SUCCESS.

I dont think Ellison is as bad as people are saying he is. The problem is Mullin inherited no BE players. I think Ellison will be a good 4 year player. But people are expecting too much from him as a so. Of course the problem is the whole team is young and other than Ponds and Lovett no great talent. Plus there is no improvement from our bigs.

Coulda used Sima.

Sima who? Williams deserved the game ball had they won. Hook shots, rebounds and boxing out - what a performance. And this kid couldn't get into any of our previous games. Now let's see if our struggling coach plays him before Yakwe. Don't count on it.

4 points between Yakwe and Owens. And there lies the problem . Even less depth w/o Sima. Only positive was the play of Williams who also had 7 rebounds. I don't know how our bigs are going to compete in the BE.

They won't. Any wins unfortunately will be generated by perimeter guys nailing jumpers. Not a great formula.

Ellison and Ahmed are crapshoots at the foul line

Ahmed : 5 of 9
Ellison: 0 of 3

Rest of team : 13 of 14

and with the way Williams was playing early on, not sure why his minutes were limited to 20.
He was clearly winded in the 2nd half. After Mullin decided to put him back in, he got stuck at the table during one of those 2 and a half minute stretches without a whistle.

Unfortunately he went 0 for 3 from the foul line. I find it hard to believe Mullin hasn't changed his line drive foul shots. Needs more loft and softness from the line.

Having a nice day I suppose. :)

Just another embarrassing defeat. What's one more?

Very disappointing, but embarrassing, I disagree, LIU has players and outplayed us. We played hard but very stupidly and while I have preached giving Mullin time I am getting frustrated with his love affair with Ellison as a lead guard. Give him minutes but leaving the ball in his hands, no, I just don't see it. Not substituting for Yakwe on offense hard to understand or defend.

Frustrated with putting the ball in Ellison's hands? Without Lovett, what choice does Mullin have? LIU was keying on Ponds, and Mussini isn't a ball handler. Ellison showed he could get to the basket all game. In fairness to Ellison on the stolen bounce pass, Yakwe showed his lack of strength and basketball instincts by not feeling that big LIU bruiser behind him, and not using his body to protect the passing lane. That's not a turnover if the ball was intended for Anthony Glover or many other forwards we have had over the years. Meanwhile, without Ellison, we would not have been in position to win. He was our only inside threat.

Yes, he was our inside threat today, however, at times I think he's a double agent

Embarrassing loss but not completely unexpected. As has been said, this just isn't a very good team. Not a single serviceable big on the team. Not one. I like Owens and Yakwe but if we're being honest they should be buried deep on the bench of any respectable Big East team right now. Ellison should be the 6th man for a mediocre A10 school. Mussini should be a situational player and not a guy we need to count on points from. Ponds & LoVett are the only guys on this roster ready for big time college basketball and its not enough. Maybe if Ahmed had shown up as more of a finished project we could get away with being average but no such luck. This isn't a tourney team next year, this is a bubble team in 2 years.

As bad as this game was, it was not as bad as Delaware State which we lost with Lovett. Nice game by Williams and I was happy to see Ellison make some drives. LIU keyed on Ponds and nobody helped him out with any screens. Poor ball movement and too many turnovers along with poor defense kept LIU in the game.

Have to give LIU credit for having a good game plan and executing it. No reason for us to play this game at Barclays.

We need a big man coach very badly.

Not to mention a big man for the big-man coach to work with.

Thought we really missed LoVett's ball-handling skills at crunch time. Ellison made some pretty wild passes that really hurt us.

Nice to see Darien Williams step up and show something. I would love to pull up some of the posts early on when we wondered if we could get something/anything out of Darien Williams. I don't remember a single positive response.
Apparently the staff felt the same way until today when they were just about forced to play him with no Sima, Ali or LoVett.

I disagree, Zach Brown is a big kid and Narcin Clark is a big kid who comes from a big time program. Add Simon into the mix and you got something. Owens progresses and puts on some weight and if Darien Williams can build on his performance today and they will be ok. Maybe Alibegovic transfers and they bring in another big. They are still the second youngest team in the country.

The kid coaching the team at crunch time
Guess our two HOF coaches know less than some on this board think they know or maybe the main objective is to give St. Jean coaching experience.

Exactly, we are tall enough, but very skinny and weak. The forwards with the large shoulders kill us. How many rebounds did their bigs have? That is why the big east will be tough for us this year, we dont have the strength.
