LIU Brooklyn, Sun. Dec. 11, 12 Noon, FS1/970AM

Just another embarrassing defeat. What's one more?

Very disappointing, but embarrassing, I disagree, LIU has players and outplayed us. We played hard but very stupidly and while I have preached giving Mullin time I am getting frustrated with his love affair with Ellison as a lead guard. Give him minutes but leaving the ball in his hands, no, I just don't see it. Not substituting for Yakwe on offense hard to understand or defend.

Having just slightly longer patience than some of us is not meritorious. We used to eke games out like this under NR (which was embarrassing of itself) and NR would launch into diatribes of what a hard fought game, a big win for us, great effort, and so on. Losses like this almost make me yearn for that - but not really.

Fortunately, my thoughts and opinions are not remotely based on whether anyone else thinks they are meritorious.

We will only go as far as our backcourt takes us. With Lovett out, and our backcourt playing the way they did today, we can loose to pretty much any team in the country.

I can't wait to wear my St. John's sweatshirt and go to the Carrier Dome to watch the Syracuse v. St. John's game.

Sadly Otis, I think you are safe. I think the only people who pay attention to our team is us on this board. Our decent to irrelevancy is just about complete. Not even sure where we go from here. I still have hope for CM but outside of the fact he is CM what exactly have we seen that says he is the one?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. When your last NCAA Tournament win was in 2000, you cease to be a relevant program.

Regarding CM, I respect the guy. But he is so in over his head, it's actually painful to watch. I think his tenure will be another rough chapter for St. John's.

I'm just going to say this right now. Since my afternoon was ruined if anyone texts me what happens on walking dead tonight while I'm at the ranger game I might throat punch you

Sounds like semantics to me Logen. However, if this isn't embarrassing (just disappointing) to us I can't wait to see what that feels like!

That is fair, I interpreted embarrassing to be because of the name on the LIU uniform and maybe I was wrong about that. LIU had talent and was well coached so "on any given day." I was way more embarrassed by our lack of respect for the ball than I was losing to LIU.

First game where we really missed Marcus, IMO. #2 for LIU did a great job denying Ponds the ball all day. Even when he was playing
the point, #2 usually forced a pass just over midcourt. Marcus also would have also given us another key ballhandler late in the game. Another key not mentioned were Owens fouling out. When he was not in there, LIU got anything they wanted inside. Also, Fleming for them making that 3 after we went up 4. If one of our guys had taken that shot, he wouldn't have heard the end of it from me, but he made it.

Frustrated with putting the ball in Ellison's hands? Without Lovett, what choice does Mullin have? LIU was keying on Ponds, and Mussini isn't a ball handler. Ellison showed he could get to the basket all game. In fairness to Ellison on the stolen bounce pass, Yakwe showed his lack of strength and basketball instincts by not feeling that big LIU bruiser behind him, and not using his body to protect the passing lane. That's not a turnover if the ball was intended for Anthony Glover or many other forwards we have had over the years. Meanwhile, without Ellison, we would not have been in position to win. He was our only inside threat.

another game I had as a win before the season started that's now a loss

lol, I have them now at -3
Had them at 2-1 in the Bahamas and go 0-3, lost the Delarare St. game is -3

Got a game back at Tulane which I had as a loss, but blew this game.

SHOULD HAVE KEPT SLICE AND GAVE HIM MORE COACHING IMPUT

Ellison and Ahmed are crapshoots at the foul line

Ahmed : 5 of 9
Ellison: 0 of 3

Rest of team : 13 of 14

and with the way Williams was playing early on, not sure why his minutes were limited to 20.

Slice was let go for abusing his "Caps Lock" privilege.

4 points between Yakwe and Owens. And there lies the problem . Even less depth w/o Sima. Only positive was the play of Williams who also had 7 rebounds. I don't know how our bigs are going to compete in the BE.

Williams in 20 minutes: 15pnts, 7boards, 2stls and a blck.

Vs. PSU I'd start Williams over Yakwe. Maybe it will send him a message "you better come to play kids, if you don't then you don't play."

Forget about this Mullin nonsense. The fact the jerseys say St. John's is meaningless. Those days are done. Mullin has a limited talent pool.

First rule of coaching is to get good players, He has only a few of them, and they are all young and/or inexperienced. He has no beef in the front court. Lubin and now Frinks ate our supposed bigs for lunch. As I wrote in a post on the Alibegovic thread, Sima's departure means Owens will get quick fouls and have to sit if required to defend any physically strong inside player. He will face stronger players every game, whether it's a high major or Cal Northridge and LIU. Yakwe and Freud are projects. They gave away 6 points with their bad hands alone.

Mullin isn't a good coach yet, but he knows talent, and has the name to get them to sign here. Everyone wants Mullin to wave a magic wand and bring back the SJU from years past. Isn't happening even if he had Clair Bee's coaching skill set. The team needs better players.

We gust have to agree to disagree, I did not base my comment on one play.
