Lavin parting ways with St.John's

I feel like Chevy Chase in. "Vacation" when he is about to go in the pool with Christie Brinkley. "THIS IS CRAZY! THIS IS CRAZY!"

Telling-

@NYPost_Brazille: Was told new #sjubb coach would be given great opportunity to get involved with top city players Rawle Alkins of Christ the King.

So much for the narrative that Alkins told Lavin he'd never go to SJU

Arbitello told Lavin that Alkins will never go to SJU. Don't worry. When the next coach fails to give Arbitello a spot, it'll be right back to the same thing.

Maybe D Hurley can swim in this cesspool. It seems that our recent coaches drowned in it. It does appear to be a major part of this job and impossible to stay above it

Regrettable. Now we are looking at last place in the conference next year. How long before it's enjoyable and exciting again?

Agree, the positive for keeping Lavin was we had Sampson coming in, and possibly CO and Jordan coming back- could have been a decent year. Now we will prob lose some of the returning players plus some recruits. Too late for a new coach to put together a good team for 15-16

Rawle was, and still is, there for the taking. He is not enamored with any one school and not against staying home. Lets see if the new coach can make inroads.

Past history dictates that the next coach will be a mid major coach willing to take the job for what SJU considers reasonable pay.
Prior to Lavin and starting with Looie 3 ass't coaches , a high school coach and two mid major coaches were hired , all willing to work for less than the going rate.
With Lavin getting a buy out and the fact that SJU feel they didn't get their money's worth out of Lavin's contract a name coach is probably out of the question.
When do the Fox attorneys attempt to lower their TV payments for what is looking more and more a mid major conference?

I would like my next bobble head to be John Calipari.

Which one, the UK or Memphis one?

You left out the UMass one, where the NCAA takes away his myth.

Of the two Hurleys, only Bobby is acceptable to me. Danny sends out Fran Fraschilla psychotic episode vibes.

LMF, a lot of what you say is correct. I just don't trust the admin to understand what Car & Driver recommends. PS Rohrssen makes more than any STJ AC so I think we should give a rest to the entire coaching staff overpaid POV. If the school goes big they'll be paying HC's and AC's the same or more than they are now. If not this is going to be lengthy and painful.

As a matter of history, I completely appreciate where you are coming from.

However, I think there is a good chance it will work out well this time. No promises, of course.

Because? Please change think to hope. If chainsaw bobby actually thinks $2 mill is too much for a college basketball coach the program is effed to mid majordom, if they weren't there already.

I'm a Buffalo alum and love what Bobby Hurley is doing for the program but Reggie Witherspoon did not leave the cupboard bare for him when he got there. He only has two years head coaching experience. Danny Hurley is the better coach right now and he'd be my choice in a heartbeat.

A Calipari Final Four is like a wet dream. Feels real good but you wake up to find out it's not real---except for the cleanup.

@NYPost_Braziller: One NYC high school coach on Steve Lavin: "The new guy will already have done a better job the minute he steps into a HS gym".

Telling words
Never wanted him here. Glad to see him leave. Goodbye and good luck, Coach
Looking forward to seeing you on ESPN next season

You need friends who know more about basketball. Or drink less. Or both.

Seriously, Zach seems to have a pretty minute circle of sources.
