Lavin parting ways with St.John's

I have been a fan of SJU since 1954 back at DeGrey Hall. I have been a member of the old Chieftain Club since its inception & continued with my annual membership in the Red & White Club despite living in Savannah, Ga. If 2 NIT's & 2 NCAA's in 4 years is not enough to satisfy the administration after many years of mediocrity, I will keep my money & support unless Mullin is next coach. Don't need another rookie with no track record!.

Mullin is the guy. Nobody else will have the impact that he will

I'd be shocked if he took the job. AD maybe; HC no.

Also, everyone who is saying we are going to struggle next season needs to realize we were rebuilding no matter who was coaching.

There was the chance, but that isn't absolutely the gospel.

Not necessarily so. As has been posted numerous times, if CO and Sheed come back, and Sampson came here, along with Diallo, LoVett and Doughty we wold have not been as bad as you and others think. Forget those guys coming here now that Lavin is gone. I think it's safe to say we will struggle next year, for sure, and possibly several years after.

Danny's name has been thrown out there more than anyone else's so far fwiw

@NYPost_Brazille: Danny Hurley "legitimately interesting" in St. John's job, source says. #sjubb

But let's be honest, there was a 0% chance of this ever happening.

Why 0%?

Agreed, but to be very good about 7 different things would have had to go right.
The possibility of which is minute. Odds are we wouldve struggled, but not had an alltime bad roster. But thats to be expected frankly when you graduate 4 starters, and 2 other key players consider going pro.

But you are absolutely right. There was no guarantee we were going to be bad.

Are you guys serious? Rick Pitino is NOT coaching STJ. Offer the job to Jackson, if he has no interest Bobby Hurley

Every post on here about rick has either been a shared tweet or sharing what was said on the radio. Chill out

Chill out? Go do your homework

Sampson has announced he is reopening his recruitment.

A total rebuild is certain, stating obvious. No way to portray it otherwise. I guess all we can do is be supportive & patient, not necessarily qualities I connect with our board. :)

I agree with Desco. We are rebuilding. Any time you lose 4 seniors who are playing major minutes, including a player like Harrison, you are rebuilding. CO is totally unreliable in a big spot. Jordan is 50/50. Then the rest are rookies and second year guys. Diallo was never a sure bet.

I'm glad Lavin is being replaced. He's probably a great guy. He represented the program well to the media. I'm proud the seniors are graduating. But he can't coach a lick.

Michael Kay is making a fool of himself, just said someone who knows Pitino texted him and said he would coach STJ for 25 mill/ 5 yrs. And he still has a house and golf club here.

I haven't been able to read all 62 pages of this thread to see the real story here but if someone can sum up for me what the heck happened over the last 2 days that brought the news reports from "Lavin finalizing contract extension" to "Mutually parting ways"??

I was shocked when I saw the app push on my phone from CBS sports that he is out. I was in between on him. I appreciated his efforts, he did have a couple of good seasons and some unfortunate time in between with his health issue but he was a solid name for our program and I wasn't quite ready yet to part with Lav. But I do understand the move and the underwhelming performance etc...

Just wondering if it was a disagreement on contract or what? Hard to believe it was performance related if they were talking contract extension....

It's great to pop on this site every now and again, my fav place to chat St. Johns BBall for the last 15 years since I was a Freshman at St. J.

Telling-

@NYPost_Brazille: Was told new #sjubb coach would be given great opportunity to get involved with top city players Rawle Alkins of Christ the King.

One thing is for sure...this week has been the least productive work week of my life. I barely did anything while reading about this saga...Luckily I make a lot less than Steve and have great job security!
