Lavin parting ways with St.John's

Let's see who the school hires before we decide if this is a bad decision. We were likely in for a rebuild with Lavin. I think Danny Hurley could get this done just as quickly. If we don't get him, I will start to get concerned.

It's hardly rebuilding with Jordan, Diaollo, Sampson, Doughty, Papa, and the other recruits lavin would have secured...would have been another year iwth a run at the tourny, and who knows what that parlay's into...X's and O's don't matter in this day and age, it's about getting talent. that's all that matter, the better players in the games, and now we lost someone who could have secured that talent...i was really looking forward to landing diallo and watching sampson...

all you crybaby fans with unreasonable expectations will be wishing this never happened over the next 4-5 years

No, they won't.... They'll just start crying again. I'll give some of 'em two years before they start soiling their diapers, if things aren't going the way THEY expect it to be.

Maybe I should start a new thread on what the over/under will be in years before the usual negative posters start all over again.

LOL

Ironic.... I was going to say something about an over/under in my post. But I'm not gonna throw those posters under the bus.... yet. Things wasn't as bad, as some made it out to be. But they are entitled to their opinion(s).

Regardless, I'm wishing the new guy much, much success. If he's successful, then that means the program is winning. I'm not devoted or tied to any, one coach or player. I just want the program to win.

But I have those posters in mind.

Michael Kay just said they are looking at 5 guys. Mullin, Jackson, both Hurleys and drumroll please

Rick Pitino

I wish I had a little birdie telling me what was going on behind the scenes at Big East Headquarters and Fox Sports. Like I said they need a solid team in NYC. I wonder what pressure they can or will bring to bare on this.
With morons like Rothstein denigrating the league at every opportunity, regardless of it's record against those power 5 conferences, we need to make a statement. The Big East needs us to make a statement and Fox Sports needs us to make a statement.

"Multiple sources said Lavin was looking for more money than the school wanted to offer."http://nyp.st/1xG1wf3 #sjubb

Lavin or his agent?

FWIW that doesn't even mean Lavin was looking for a raise. Some were posting the school wanted to cut his salary. That is something no one would accept.

True. But having worked at agencies in the past (thought not for sports), I'm aware that all too often the tail wags the dog.

I have been a fan of SJU since 1954 back at DeGrey Hall. I have been a member of the old Chieftain Club since its inception & continued with my annual membership in the Red & White Club despite living in Savannah, Ga. If 2 NIT's & 2 NCAA's in 4 years is not enough to satisfy the administration after many years of mediocrity, I will keep my money & support unless Mullin is next coach. Don't need another rookie with no track record!.

Must've meant Richard. Please not him I hate pitino jr

He said he got a text for a guy in the know and mentioned those 5. It's possible he misunderstood which Pitino but he's on the air talking about the senior Pitino

Mullin is the guy. Nobody else will have the impact that he will

I don't want young Richard, either.

He's a sniffling dweeb that was outcoached badly by Lavin and has accomplished nothing.

Bobby Hurley on the other hand....

we need Mullin. Im sure all the old fans and LOUIE want him here too. Make it happen or else we made a mistake!

Nice name, good feeling but he has never coached a game at any level or recruited. What makes some believe he is a perfect hire?

The Pitinos are a package deal. :p

Who fired him, Monasch or Gempesaw?

What about the Assistant Coaches? New HC will clean house?

What about Monasch? How did he escape?

Threads for each of your questions are on the way. :)

Rick Pitino would be a great cost-cutting option. Hell, can they even get Mullin or Jackson for less than they were paying Lavin?

will be of paramount importance for the next coach to establish strong relations with the NYC area HS programs.

for us to succeed, that pipeline must be open, which is why i think we need to get a NY guy.

ex-coach Lavin did not know where half of the NYC HS power programs were, nor did he care to know.

Don't think it's as important as it used to be. NYC hoops is not what it used to be. No one of importance on our team this year was from new york, and that worked out fairly well for us.

Party is BACK ON at Desco's!! And it's a Friday so we can get all sorts of rowdy and weird

Tap the kegs, light the cigars ... it is a new day.

I don't hate Lavin so much that I don't appreciate the progress he made, he took steps forward from where we were in 2010. But this is a good thing for fans of St Johns hoops. We will be even better in the future.

Or dim the lights and put on black.

The Devil you know etc. He was far from perfect but I think he achieved more than he gets credit for. I don't see it as a good thing. He should have been kept on a short leash and his staff should have shaken up for some solid X & O guys. I get the feeling the next several years will be barren and we may regret this.

Maybe he didn't want to be on a short leash and have his staff shaken up.

He was on a short leash this whole season. Everyone knew that in September.

stop with the never coached before stuff. He was a GM for goodness sake. He is more knowledgeable than 90% of the boobs coaching. He is our favorite son, if we take a "chance" on anyone, ITS HIM!!!!!

Biggest impact of this coaching change is that Paultz will have to completely update the Recruiting section. B)
