Lavin parting ways with St.John's

This is yet another sad day in SJU history. We fire a coach who brought us to two NCAA appearances, one NIT appearance, two consecutive 20 win seasons in a row. And for what reason? We will never know. There can be all kinds of speculation and we will get the usual suspects with all their un-named sources.

I've been a season ticket holder since Lavin was hired. That was the reason I became one. The last five seasons have had their ups and downs, but I really enjoyed going to as many games as I did and seeing as many players as I did.

Now, I have to seriously reconsider whether to spend $1200 now for a three year re-building program.

Why do you assume this was a firing and not Lavin looking for an unreasonable extension?

The homophobic tweets and the pot smoking didn't go over too well

Let's see who the school hires before we decide if this is a bad decision. We were likely in for a rebuild with Lavin. I think Danny Hurley could get this done just as quickly. If we don't get him, I will start to get concerned.

It's hardly rebuilding with Jordan, Diaollo, Sampson, Doughty, Papa, and the other recruits lavin would have secured...would have been another year iwth a run at the tourny, and who knows what that parlay's into...X's and O's don't matter in this day and age, it's about getting talent. that's all that matter, the better players in the games, and now we lost someone who could have secured that talent...i was really looking forward to landing diallo and watching sampson...

all you crybaby fans with unreasonable expectations will be wishing this never happened over the next 4-5 years

wow...la la land

pretty sure super troopers 2 raised 2 million dollars in a day for production from fans...we should start a fundraiser that can only be used to acquire Marshall or another big haus

You are absolutely correct , monte. I should not have used the word "fire." He very well could have been looking for a raise and an unreasonable extension. Right now, I'm too depressed to go back and edit my original post. But thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Two thoughts - first of all there was zero evidence that Diallo or Papa would have signed with Lavin or won't sign with a new coach.
The second thought was a lot funnier. My 11 year old son who attends a lot of the games and is a big fan, got an alert on his phone that Lavin was leaving. He wasn't terribly disappointed but thought Lavin should stay. He said I am not sure how many people want this job. That is the perspective of the next generation of fans, even after an NCAA Berth.

So Monasch comments," we want to attract talent both nationally and internationally." There you are, who better then Fran Fraschilla. And why not?

If this was done in an attempt to get cheaper, that could end up biting the University.

Party is BACK ON at Desco's!! And it's a Friday so we can get all sorts of rowdy and weird

Tap the kegs, light the cigars ... it is a new day.

I don't hate Lavin so much that I don't appreciate the progress he made, he took steps forward from where we were in 2010. But this is a good thing for fans of St Johns hoops. We will be even better in the future.

You're son sounds like he's got a solid head on his shoulders.

will be of paramount importance for the next coach to establish strong relations with the NYC area HS programs.

for us to succeed, that pipeline must be open, which is why i think we need to get a NY guy.

ex-coach Lavin did not know where half of the NYC HS power programs were, nor did he care to know.

Exactly, do that well and the program might be as good as Seton Hall!

Ha. Just what I was thinking.
