Lavin parting ways with St.John's

with threads like this the site is going off the rails, where is your source buddy? don't say crap like this without a source.

I would bet this is BS. google just posted 2 days ago that his "sources" said monasch was fired. If this turns out to be crap I don't want a guy like this posting

Agreed. Just post that you are hearing he may be fired but have no confirmation. Don't go and start a new thread. I just logged in and thought it was a definite decision and breaking news it's just more BS speculation

I am sharing with you what i was told and I stand by it 100%. Do you want me to record the conversations to satisfy you? Come on man.

Please remove the question mark from the title.
Sirvoo- good source?

This is yet another sad day in SJU history. We fire a coach who brought us to two NCAA appearances, one NIT appearance, two consecutive 20 win seasons in a row. And for what reason? We will never know. There can be all kinds of speculation and we will get the usual suspects with all their un-named sources.

I've been a season ticket holder since Lavin was hired. That was the reason I became one. The last five seasons have had their ups and downs, but I really enjoyed going to as many games as I did and seeing as many players as I did.

Now, I have to seriously reconsider whether to spend $1200 now for a three year re-building program.

Thank you SL for putting us on the map again. Good guy, good recruiter but not the right man for the job anymore. Paultz what is step 2 and no more cryptic messages!!

While I am excited for change and not positive in the direction Steve Lavin could have brought us, I must admit that his tenure was the best stretch ive had as a st johns fan. Thanks Steve and good luck!

If paultz could share what he knows he would. Believe me. I'm sure he has info but doesn't want to jump the gun or put our rumors so people on here can freak out.

Let's see who the school hires before we decide if this is a bad decision. We were likely in for a rebuild with Lavin. I think Danny Hurley could get this done just as quickly. If we don't get him, I will start to get concerned.

That's a nice sentiment. However, I have been a season ticket holder going back to Louie. In all of that time, Lavin was the first coach who made me seriously consider giving up my tickets.

You will have something of a rebuild for a year or two now. However, you were going to have that anyway. With any luck, you will get a chance to watch better basketball now. You might find that better basketball played by a less "athletic" group of players wins just as many games and is a whole lot better to watch.

For those who really need to ask, step 2 is signing the next coach. IMO the school got step 1 exactly right. I certainly hope they go 2 for 2.

He's like the low water mark on the list of what it will take to keep this program moving forward (Bobby isn't even approaching that level). My list is obviously unattainable if they're looking for a cheap solution, likely even if they weren't.

It's a bold statement by the admin to do this but if the next step isn't bold then it throws the program's image back down where it was before Lavin was hired, penny ante.

Many thanks to Coach Lavin, and his staff. Whatever one thinks of this move today (I was on the fence, even though I voted for retention in the poll), we certainly had more then a few terrific moments during his time here. I myself, will cherish those, more then the down ones.

I can't say that about many other coaches we have had here.
