Lavin parting ways with St.John's

Sometimes it's not easy to find your groove when you get pulled from the game right away. Then you don't see the floor in a game again for a month. If Felix was thrown into the fire like PG4 was as a frosh and got a guaranteed 30 plus a game, you'd see a difference in Felix' game... Lavin had his favs and they saw the minutes even when they should not have

I was surprised that Balamou didn't get any burn in the tournament game. Was that due to his injury?

Had nothing to do with an injury...very upset about it.... I personally would've put him in b4 jdr.. Granted I'd put keady in b4 jdr

If i'm not mistaken, hours before the game at the pre game reception Lavin mentioned that FB's ankle was bothering him. If he was ready to go probably could have used him.

I'll take FB's word for it over what Lavin may have said. Guessing JDR looked better in practice that week. :)

I'm cutting and pasting a text I just received from someone who has been reliable with his info in the past. I'm not vouching for it, just sharing what I just got in a text.

"Lavin deal done in principle. Today's twitter rumors bull shit. Negotiating length, terms of extension. Diallo down to Iowa State and SJU. Johnnies in very good shape for Papagiannis. Sju waffling on Lavin is perception vs reality"

And for what it's worth he also sent me this;

"Sju signee Samir Doughty named philly public school player of the year.
sju commit Brandon Sampson Louisiana 1A outstanding player of the year."

Mussini to St. John's is very, much in play! We're still probably a few months away before hearing anything definitive.

For the one's writing off the 2015 recruiting class.... Currently, the class would leave us in a serious jam. Write it off as when it's been finalized. Still some "if's," per the class, but we're definitely in the "thick of things" when it comes to Diallo, Papagiannis, and Mussini. If they aren't a part of the class, and we're without Jordan and Obekpa, then it'll be ugly.

Otherwise, let's see how the class materializes. By the way, along with Sampson, the three above-mentioned players would give us four high-level recruits.

If Jordan and CO stay, which I think they will, then a class of Sampson, Doughty, Thompkins, Diallo and Papagiiannis would be excellent. we would have a very good team next year. If Mussini is a real question mark I will take the kid Randall, I like his size for a PG at 6'4. Add Albigovic, ADR and Felix. that's an NCAA team. Fingers crossed.
Agree team would have good personnel. But a whole new, young team coached by Lavin is doubtful for an NCAA bid. Can you imagine the experimenting and tinkering Lavin would do with that team? Jell by the following season, maybe.

The problem is that by the following season Diallo and Papa may be gone, and so the cycle continues. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Change is good, but difficult most often.

Do you have any idea of when we should be expecting an announcement? Whether it for a firing or an extension? I am all about taking your time to make sure you are making the correct decision, but this is getting a little ridiculous.

Change is good, but difficult most often.

And we are all experiencing a major SJU change cycle circa 2015-16 whether we like it or not and some of us have that compounded w/significant non- basketball (personal) changes. Transitions are upsetting, discombobulating even positive ones - as we realize.
What will we see at the end of 2015???

(From monte I believe) Yes there are people who think that with the right assistant coaches, with a contract extension to motivate him, with another year of experience under his belt, etc. etc. etc., that he will change. I do not happen to be one of those people. What you've seen with Lavin is what you'll continue to see. So be prepared for more of the same if they come to an agreement on an extension.[/quote]

SS&G
I checked " thank you" monte because often but not always what you see is what you get like a trait in one's son or daughter that's there since birth. There is, however, this caveat. People and situations do at times change either gradually or by quantum leaps. Generalizations are not helpful. That son, daughter, girlfriend, job, college basketball coach can evolve and 2015-16 might hand us a noticeable difference. Maybe yes maybe no. Just need to let it play itself out.
Thanks!

I agree completely SSG, and as the parent of two teenegars I can relate. If Lavin is extended I would hope that would be the case, although to be honest I am highly skeptical.

I hope the announcement is made today. Either fire him, extend him, or come out and officially announce you are going to extend him and just working out details to end speculation

Paultz your avatar has me officially thinking he is being fired

Watching Paltz's avatar change daily is like watching the way the Politburo in the old Soviet Union used to line up at their May Day military parade! It was always a clue as to who had the most power in that grop. Who's in the middle? Who's the furthest away?

Or I'm moving to Borneo.

We'll miss ya, Paultz. But Borneo is beautiful this time of year!!

And please, while you're there, keep your eyes and ears open for potential recruits!

Went to Borneo high school all star game recently & saw an outstanding center. The fact he was 5'5" may be a problem however, although we like to go small.

If this drags on through the weekend I may go crazy at what a joke we are.
