Lavin Contract Extension

Interesting that Lavin's name with the knicks comes up just as it's been made known that he is talking about extension with SJU

Carton blowing smoke.
better than his normal blowing boomer.

Carton I've found very annoying the last few months for some reason

mjmaherjr, substitute "years" for "months" and we're in total agreement.

If you find him annoying he is doing a good job. Because their ratings are thru the roof. And now a nationally syndicated show.

I think Lavin's worst enemy is Steve Lavin. He is always making statements that build up his players and while there is certainly nothing wrong with that I think many followers take him too seriously.
There are not four future pros on this roster (Sampson,Obepka,Sanchez,Jordan). Maybe one or two. Max and Mario are not two of the greatest shooters he has ever coached.
I expect if De la Rosa signs he will be equal to any center Lavin has ever coached.I just reread three pre season college mags and not one has SJU higher than fifth.

You do realize that "future pro" doesn't necessarily mean NBA, right?
On the other hand on the Redstorm Report show on SNY Lavin did say that Sanchez will be playing in the NBA, that's right a reserve averaging 7 pts a game will make the NBA. I happen to like Sanchez a lot but he gets killed by many posters on both boards. So for those that support Lavin in denying he makes some fairly outlandish statements and think CO is terrible even in college reconcile Lavin stating he will make the NBA. Side note to simplyred-i have commented on 3 of your latest posts. Let me assure you this is strictly coincidental. Actually I guess it is a bit of a compliment that your points warrant discussion.

Still not really sure what I think the future holds for Sanchez. Could def see him playing in Europe or D league. Although at 25 years old he's probably even a little old for D league. Possibly he gets a cup of coffee with an NBA team at some point. FWIW Kevin Williams was a reserve here and never averaged more than 10 PPG, yet he played in the league for 5 years. Yes Sanchez has not exactly impressed during his time here, but I wouldn't put to much importance on his stats. He's got a pro body and athleticism.

Too bad they eliminated the Legends game. At his age, he could have entered the NBA and went right to that game.

Ha!!!

That was my first thought. Figured Lavin's agent leaked some info regardless of whether it was true or not.

That said, you have to figure that if Lavin did get an interview he would be charming as hell for people who eat that type stuff up.

Agreed but if Phil Jackson ends up running things I don't see Lavin being his type of guy. Jackson already has that Zen stuff going on so I don't think that works on him

Lavin's pretty much a clean slate. jackson can mold him in his own image. :p

I think Jackson is so smart he's looking for his equal maybe not in zen spirit but in basketball mind. I could see him going for a Dunlap

Plus Jackson loves to tweak people. I'm not sure if he ever tweaked Jordan, but it would be the ultimate one if Dunlap won big under Phil.

I can't imagine this is anything more than a smart Lavin and his agent trying to lever up his contract negotiatons.

Never cared for Goodman;

@GoodmanESPN: Two administrative decisions that have surprised me: DePaul keeping Purnell for another year, Lavin on verge of signing lengthy extension.

@GoodmanESPN: Lavin extremely likable, but went to NCAA tourney first year with Norm Roberts' players - has not gone since, may not go this year. Year 4.

Did most people expect him to go to the NCAA's in years 2 and 3 with all freshmen and sophomores? Was that realistic?

Certainly not expected in year 2. Year 3 was a toss-up, in my opinion. But this year was the "no excuses" year.

Goodman sounds like some of our negative posters. Why state the obvious? I think fans know we went the first year, not since, and this year's not a lock Why not write about some of the adversity this team had during the season, and how guys have stepped up and made great strides (Harrison) , are dealing with life issues -family illnesses and death (Jordan), and overcome horrendous starts (Sampson). He could write about the progression of Obekpa, the depth of the roster, and how this team might be a typical Lavin team, ready to be dangerous should we make the dance. I mean, that might take some knowledge of the team itself.
