Knicks

I’m not counting us out next year. Take Boston off the board without Tatum for a season. The Sixers are still a mess and will need Embiids knee to come together (doubtful)

So the top of the east is Indy and Cleveland, then. Maybe Orlando if they can go up a level. Maybe pistons go up a level too. Not exactly murderers row here.

The question is going to be how can we improve the roster in small ways to get us closer to the depth of an Indy and Cleveland and be more capable of running with them.

Won’t be necessarily easy with our cap situation and everything we have under contract. But we will be in the mix

Absolutely. If we were in the west, its a totally different story. Our talent is way too greater than these other teams to think we're going to be struggling.

Oh well, Carmelo is definitely the guy who knows all about winning playoff games amirite?

Context:
28-55 record in playoff games
3 series wins, 13 series losses

Also:
An absolute black hole on offense who while padding his personal stats made every team he played on worse. A latter-day Stephon Marbury.
Absolutely, those two guys are probably my least favorite Knicks of all time. I must admit I compared KAT to Melo when texting with my daughter during one of the Pacer playoff games - probably a little unduly harsh looking back.

I’m the rare millennial that doesn’t like Melo either, but I found it an interesting perspective as a guy who’s still very close to the franchise.

It does validate the proposition that the franchise makes dopey decisions because it listens to dopey takes from guys it shouldn't be listening to. Definitely worth posting as a means of insight into how their "thought process" works.

Or it's just Dolan being Dolan, I guess. So frustrating.

There's a whole lot of very quiet shade being thrown at Brunson as well as some not-so-subtle digs at his father being on staff being part of the problem.

I don't think the Knicks are trying to hire Rick B as HC, though I do agree the "ask about all these coaches" might very well be a dog-and-pony show to convince Dolan that they really did their due diligence and cover their asses before they hire a realistic option - which only further cements the idea that this was in fact a Dolan decision and not a front office one.

And having Brunson as your lead singer is complicated. He's great. But. The ball does not move when he is on the floor, to the detriment of other capable offensive players like OG and Bridges. And he's a defensive liability. It's fair to suggest that Thibs unwillingness or inability to create a more complete offense - perhaps complicated by Rick being on the staff - was a major contributor to his downfall.

Will be interesting to see if the next coach adjusts from that - but regardless he won't be able to get much more defense out of either Towns or Brunson, they are who they are.

Man, I always had respect for Micheal Ray. Told Stern to go f*** himself and didn’t flinch. Yeah, he had his demons, but he wasn’t gonna be the league’s scapegoat. Meanwhile, guys like Walter Davis begged for forgiveness and still paid the price. That’s probably why he’s not in the Hall. MR took his ball and went to Europe. Didn’t care. Then you had Sleepy Floyd trying to throw Mully under the bus. The league was on edge after the Len Bias tragedy. It was a different era. But I liked that Micheal Ray just said, “Screw it,” and went out on his own terms.

Or he could’ve used one of his positive tests to turn his life and career around instead of failing three times.
