Knicks

I was as critical as anyone about Thibs and his absolute stubbornness to any type of change.

But firing him was at best questionable, at worst madness. He had a Pat Riley-like impact on a franchise that had been flailing for almost 20 years.

So the argument is Thibs can only take you so far. I actually agreed with that. He was so damn rigid. He ran his starters into the ground, which I'm positive is the reason why they looked like punching bags in one playoff game and world beaters the next.

But if you decide to move on, do it early and have someone waiting in the wings who is better.

Or at least someone who you think is better.

Obviously, that wasn't the case.

There was no plan here. No transition. Just dysfunction and embarrassment.

And while it isn't an exact parallel, I'm getting flashbacks to the STJ coaching search of 2019.

So it all comes down to this: Does James Jones want the Knicks job?
I’m with you . You pretty much nailed my rare thoughts in life

If you include a lot of preseason games against the Washington generals CMA won’t have a losing season

When the Knicks get down to there 90th candidate I’m calling Sha or Speedy. I actually think Speedy would have potential as nba coach.

An to think people don't believe there is a Curse of Dolan on the Knicks and Rangers.
I don’t with the rangers. Overall the m a very happy ranger fan. The Knicks for sure I believe in the curse. Although I’m getting tired of our current gm even though he’s had success every off year. I don’t mention his name to stay on topic

It is disrespectul to fans that he refuses to hold one press conference.

I actually don’t mind that. But you are way younger than me. As an old guy I don’t get caught up in press conferences anymore. I had my popcorn I saw the sitting on the scorers table and the flat out lying about what he’d do recruiting and my greatly survived Norm 😀

Knicks front office decisions look like a real sh*t show right now. All I can do as a long suffering fan is wait patiently to see if it’s even worse as coach and roster are finalized lol/

LMF Fearless Forecasts (and a comment or two):

1. They shouldn't have fired Thibs.

2. Firing Thibs without a plan makes them, as Charles said, the dumbest people in the world.

3. They should hire Mike Malone, who is the best choice to make lemonade out of this lemon - professional coach and a measure of continuity even if he isn't a clear (or any) improvement on Thibs.

4. They will not hire Malone they will wind up with Jenkins or Bryant. Maybe Mike Brown, but I don't think so.

5. Bridges was the rat.

6. They will get neither Antetekumpo nor Durant (and they should not want Durant anyway).

7. They will run it back next year with different bench players. The only top 7 player who might get moved is my son Josh Hart.

8. They will win 44 games next season.

9. They will not make it to the conference finals next season.

10. There will still be people who think firing Thibs was a good idea because he hit his ceiling or anonymous players weren't happy or whatever.

11. By 2028 the Knicks will be back to irrelevance

Other than the shooting, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?

12. The Knicks become an afterthought in their own building due to the wild and unprecedented success of the Rick Pitino’s St. John’s basketball program

The Thibs think is strange. I still think there is a window for this team to win but winning a championship is tough and like Jack said we weren't that far off next year. If we don't do as well next season it could be bad luck as much as the new coach and roster.

Good list, the two trades, bolstered by #6, added talent on paper, hurt chemistry. I think we will find the Knicks peaked this year as far as playoff runs and will fall backwards over the next year or two back into relative irrelevance at best.
Which, obviously, is saying nothing more than I agree with your analysis. Hope we are wrong.

Anything Dolan touches is strange and dysfunctional. I know from someone who worked closely with Dolan that he is egotistical, thrives on chaos and has zero management & leadership skills. Like Woody Johnson, he inherited his wealth and is ill equipped to lead an organization.

We all understand Jim Dolan inherited all of his father’s wealth, but not work ethic or business acumen.

Putting that aside, I still think this was all Rose, and that something big with the team is in the works. Of course this is just me, because no one knows what is really happening behind the scenes. Including the media. And they hate the front office for it.

Rose’s demands for the cone of silence, puts most mob families to shame.

I am willing to wait this out, especially since the NBA is in the middle of the Finals, and does not want any news to further overshadow it (the ratings are already low to begin with).

Finally, I have eased off criticizing Dolan because the relationship between the Garden and SJU has never been better.

Even Pitino mentioned it after they agreed to move the Seton Hall game. But it goes beyond that.

Attending an SJU game at the Garden now is a completely different experience. Press conferences, being lit up in red on game days, advertising inside and out, the court, it just feels like a home court advantage. Of course it helps to be good, but the Garden helped move the needle. And who knows if they helped with the NIL.

So while my pro basketball love will always be the Knicks, if I had to pick one basketball title, it will be SJU every time.

Anyway, back to the topic where lawman rants about Thibs being fired. 😃

Reporters also saying Billy Donovan shouldn’t be ruled out, despite Bulls initially declining.

The east is horrendous. We will have a very good regular season next year.
