Shams saying it's Rose for Dennis Smith and 'draft compensation'. As long as it's not a first round pick it's a good trade. Thibs gets a guys he knows well. Quickley gets a vet mentor. Trade away a guy who never played.
Second rounder this year.

Just saw a tweet from Woj (ESPN) confirming Smith and a second rounder for Rose. Great trade for the Knicks IMO

Seems like Knicks are trying to solidify playoff position for this season.

Obi Toppin had an excellent fourth quarter today where he had a spurt of 7 points and a couple boards. He was yanked for crunch time though.

it's understandable, but there's definitely gonna be a struggle between the fanbase and Thibs as this season goes on. All Knicks fan want to win yes, but Thibs loves his vets. He just traded for another one.

as a Knicks fan I appreciate Thibs for making them competitive, but I wanna see the kids play. Elfrid Payton should not have more attempted shots in a game than IQ and Obi combined. Come on.

and RJ had an off game today, yes. But sitting him for crunch time in a one possession game against the Eastern Conference champs of a year ago is frustrating. These kids need experience in big spots like that

I don't know Jack. I get the emphasis on developing our young talent, but at the same time I love Thibs. He has made us halfway relevant again and I don't see the problem with mixing in a few vets like Gibson & Rose with the youth corps. Remeber, when it comes to Toppin (who I like) & all star Randle, Randle is only 26 and can be that free agent we couldn't sign. I suspect they will play together at some point. I think Rose will be a good tutor for Quickley and suspect Rivers will be traded  soon. Smith is very definitely addition by subtraction.     Barrett needs to be way more consistent to fulfill his potential and that is not on Thibs. Just my opinion but I am very happy with the way Knicks are headed.

Bobby Portis, former Knick and CMA player at Arkansas, seems to have got himself into a good spot with Eastern conference contender Milwaukee; averaging 22 mpg, 11 ppg and 8 rebounds.

Tough break for our Knicks losing Robinson for several weeks with a broken hand as he'd been playing well. Good news is Rose appears to be playing very well with Quickley & Toppin off the bench.
On a somewhat unrelated topic (but it is pro basketball so not hijacking the thread), it is interesting to see how many recent Nova players are thriving in the NBA. Bey had 30 points and 12 rebounds for the Pistons last night and all of Brunson, Bridges, DiVincenzo, Hart, Paschall & Bey are solid rotation players for their teams, with Bridges probably the best of the group. Ironically the only one who has been somewhat of a bust and came out too soon is Omari Spellman who naturally wound up with our Knicks!

Porzingis putting up 36 last night. 8-13 from 3pt range. Thankfully that trade worked out well for both teams.

Take it you weren't impressed with the Dennis Smith era.

I remember being upset that the Knicks took Ntilikina over Smith. I clearly have an eye for talent. Who need Donovan Mitchell or Bam anyways?

Another W. Knicks are 13-15. Some winnable games coming up.

Mitch Robinson fractured his hand and will likely miss 6-8 weeks. That sucks for sure.

but IQ and Toppin were both good tonight. A lot of young talent on this squad

Absolutely monster game for Randle tonight ( #allstar ) and Noel was excellent on the defensive end

Randle goes for 44 points in Knicks 123-112 win over Hawks in the Garden. They are now 14-15 and in 6th place in Eastern Conference. What a difference a coach makes.

Some great RJ Barrett tonight too! Two huge threes late...

And Quickley... so composed and poised in crunch time. Love this team

Admittedly, I trailed off following Knicks closely last 5+ years, as it was just painful coupled w/ Johnnies, but finally feel like there is some hope ahead.  Really good young roster.  Wasn't crazy about Rose but can see why Thibs brought him in.  Fingers crossed we play above .500. and this young group excels and sets up for strong season next year.

I didnt likr the Rose trade either which proves why i'm not a gm. The thing that is exciting aside from new coaching is that Randall is only 26 and RJ is the youngest player on the team. Add in Jack Williams favorite player that's a great nucleus

I actually loved the Rose trade. The Knicks are very young, which is great, but it's always good to have one or two vets to mentor the young guys and Rose and Thibs are very simpatico. While Rose is 32 and not the 22 year old MVP of old, he still plays at a very quick pace which fits in very well with Quick & Toppin. Most importantly, he is fine playing 20 minutes a night and is not taking any time from the  kids, but from Rivers who is only a few years younger than Rose and does not appear to be in Knicks plans anyway. Looks like that second unit already has good chemistry. I'm not expecting Knicks to finish with a winning record but I definitely think they can make the payoffs in the East this year and should only get better if they don't start trading away #1 picks.

I was surprised to see the standings last night and how close it was from top to bottom 1-10 in the Eastern Conference when they put up that stat last night. The knicks are only like 4 or 5 games out of first and like 2 away from 10th

Turned on the TV this morning, it was still on CBSSN from last night and I lucked into a special on the 50th anniversary of Winston Salem State's national championship with the great Earl the Pearl and celebrating the coaching legacy of Clarence Gaines who coached WSS for 47 years with a record of 828-447. Wonderful segment with lots of great film of Earl's college heroics and interviews with Billy Packer who played and coached with WSS' neighbor Wake Forest which was pretty much all white in 1967 discussing how that historic run by Winston Salem State brought the city of Winston Salem together like nothing ever had before. Glad I happened on it as Earl has always been one of my favorite players of all time.
