Keita Injury

Maybe a Queens thing but whenever the Mets or ST John's say someone is day to day bet on surgery or guy quitting the team.

Well with our luck, I figured the black cloud would show up sooner or later.
The one guy we really couldn't afford to get hurt and he did. How did this go from being a minor injury with day to day status, to the kid already having surgery and being out for 4-6 weeks?
Original MRI did not show anything apparently. He still had pain & then had surgical consult resulting in surgery.
Huge opportunity for Roberts to get focused coaching and preparation most freshmen bigs never do. The silver lining is this could make us a better team in February and March if Roberts steps up.

Marillac also might get Simon at PF!
Seems unlikely to me that we're suddenly going to see Roberts playing big minutes. Otherwise he would have played in the Bowling Green game. Even against Rutgers' very tall front line (and other upcoming opponents with size), I would expect CM to opt for smaller lineups. Will be hard for us to defend, but key is making it equally hard for their bigs to defend us so that they have to go small.

Agreed even with Keita barely playing they only dusted Roberts off for 4 total mins. He will play more for sure but mostly we will go small.

Asked Chris Mullin if this means a bigger role for Josh Roberts and was noncommittal, depends on how game goes. Said he hasn’t played much because there are better players ahead of him. #sjubb

Another silver lining is that it might allow us the leeway to lose a game to a Rutgers, a Temple/VCU, a Georgia Tech (not all 3 obviously, but 1), and if Keita comes back strong, and we win something like 12 Big East games, plus 1 tournament game, the committee might say "yes, it was a bad loss to [any team I mentioned above], but they didn't have their starting center in that one, and they've been good since he came back, so we'll excuse it."

Of course, I'm not guaranteeing that that is how it will play out, just that it could.

On the “hand bike” as we speak.

Ha. Comical! Yet typical. CM and co. see this as an even better opportunity to throw a guard out there and chuck up more ill-advised shots with no real theme to the offense but for playground style. Business as usual.

Tough break for Sedee Keita. I can't say I am surprised as most of us realized we needed more big men two years ago. Like the little league team the sticks the weakest kid in RF the ball almost always finds them. No excuses from staff as this was always a possibility. I'll hope we see our way through and Keita is ready around January 15. What else can we do.

Yikes. Hopefully it really is just the 4-6 weeks because we just don't have the depth to get through any significant stretch of conference play without any of our core rotation guys.

Part of the consequential damage here is that now you're right back to having a short rotation. Even if Roberts/Williams can technically fill the minutes, likely there will be a lot more pressure on Ponds/Heron/Simon/Clark/Figgy especially in the 2nd half of close games.

This is unbelievable, hopefully our guys start to light it up and we just out score everyone!

Clark needs to stay out of foul trouble and staff need to sub for him when they see he is getting a bit tired which leads to lazy fouls. He needs to be on the court as we try to close out games.

I think Keita is turning out to be our version of Jacoby Ellsbury.

im not too worried about this. we have seen keita play for all of 14 minutes. we need him for big east season for sure though.

Comical! Who needs size, when we can throw another guard out there and chuck up 3's! Just the way the staff likes to do it.

We are fortunate to ALSO have Trimble and Dixon - bodies!

(Ponds/Heron/Simon/Clark/Figgy especially in the 2nd half of close games)
