Keita Injury

Geez, I thought there was an update on the injury somewhere in here. No luck.
Keita is hurt, becasue of that we need our guards to play even better defense.

WASJU you've been spot on about the rotation/minutes that others (not me!) were trying to stretch. It is hard to press like crazy with your best players getting upwards of 30 min but I would disagree and say we've seen a lot more than just token pressure.
In fairness I think everyone thought first two games would be a lot more lopsided and could go 10 deep at least at beginning of season. Based off what I saw from Keita in very, very limited minutes, I am not sure why they wouldn't throw Roberts out there. Unless what they see in practice prevents that. Which would be really scary considering our roster makeup.

Dixon being bad at defense is fake news. He had some problems with screens but his effort was good. Wasju plays the harp...he harps on a few things all year. This year it looks like Keita fouling and Dixon's defense since Ponds is shooting 45% from three and he has to harp on something else.

Chris Mullin seemed pretty convinced. After sideline talking never saw him again. And Keita has more fouls than points and rebounds combined.
Now how about some "real news" like how Simon is not a good ball handler and despite the fact that he is 6-5 should be down low posting up 4' and 5's.
Game 7 is my over / under when you turn on Heron when people start complimenting him a little too much for your liking as of course that will somehow take away from Ponds.

To the point of going ten deep, I do think most coaches for early season games would shorten the bench so that key rotation players would get their first taste of playing together in real games. There will be some time for 9, 10, and 11 players to see court time, but for at least the first 4-5 games the focus is getting our main guys playing well together. Obviously that hasn't happened yet, and it shouldn't be unexpected at this juncture.

More fouls than points & rebounds combined, for our only big man is a red flag. And that is coaching. That is something that is fixed with guidance and discipline. Should be emphasized in every practice and every game. We are not going to last if our one big is in consistent foul trouble, coaching staff needs to address it.

Guys, Keita played one game where he got called for 5 quick fouls and could only play 10 minutes, couldn't play in second game because he was hurt. Staff is high on him and he apparently played pretty well in 29 minutes in exhibition game. Kind of premature to make any judgment on how he will perform this year based on tiny sample size. I really hope we get to see him play significant minutes Friday.

That is fair. I think the first game concerned many, myself included because of who he struggled against.
On top of that he averaged 5.7 fouls per 40 minutes in his one season at SC.

Sedee Keita out 4-6 weeks after undergoing knee surgery. #sjubb

There has got to be at least 1 big body in NYC that has eligibility and wants to ball for fun.

Keita doesn't have too be a star to help this team. He had one bad game and then he got hurt. We need him this season and hopefully the injury does not drag on.

Tbh I didn't notice his defense (I wasn't paying close attention), but am glad to see he contributed in a unique way and Mullin/others took notice.
Trimble's D stood out in comparison top Ponds and Dixon's D
I honestly didn’t notice Dixon’s lack of D but the amount of times you’ve brought it up it must have been bad.
Didn't watch game?
He literally didn't try. As someone pointed out was so bad that Mullin pulled him aside at TO and he was never heard from again. Honestly he was mostly responsible for what was a 7 point lead becoming a deficit.
I choose offense over defense every time. If a guy is a good offensive player like say Ponds I overlook defensive issues. Dixon was playing Carmelo Anthony lack of any effort D. If you did not notice not sure what you were watching. It was sole reason Trimble came in.
No I watched the whole game but defensively was mostly focused on us trying to guard the interior and Trimble really bringing it in the second half stood out. I wasn’t saying you were wrong, I didn’t think Dixon played well just aside from back to back offensive rebounds I don’t remember seeing him at all. So youre saying it wasn’t even skill it was effort?
You like to read back my posts from time to time to prove me wrong. How many times have I really railed against someone's defense. Ponds, Simon and Ahmed were terrible closing out on shooters last year and I mentioned it. Ponds also has weird habit of closing out with his hands down. All three of those guys play hard I think it was more lack of awareness? They get caught looking around. Not sure. Haven't seen enough of Dixon but it was concentrated on a 4 minute time in a game but the optics were really bad.
I am weird I sometimes focus on one player for stretches, especially if something jumps out at me. It looked like lack of effort and it was annoying.
Friday new game and hopefully was one time deal.
Take it as a compliment. Like the coach that is constantly getting on your case, you may think hes got it out for you but you realize the real problem is when he stops getting on your case at all. But seriously I didnt see it and the way you have described it I was surprised. Wasnt meant to be snarky. If I wanted to do that I would have asked you about the press we will never use. But I am not trying to be snarky.
Quite frankly I didn't notice it Dixon's lack of defensive effort and I too watched the whole game. I did notice the time the Trimble received and liked his effort on defense. I did notice Dixon not returning, but chalked that up to Mullin liking what he and the team was doing while he was in there more than a lack of effort on Dixon's part.

Well it looks like we are going to see a lot more of Trimble and Dixon so everyone should be happy.

Suit up, Mr. Roberts.

Well with our luck, I figured the black cloud would show up sooner or later.

The one guy we really couldn't afford to get hurt and he did. How did this go from being a minor injury with day to day status, to the kid already having surgery and being out for 4-6 weeks?

And pretty much every fan who has been around the past 30 years expected this to come. Many on here were saying it including me pleading to recruit more big men. What happens when Keita gets injured?

Huge opportunity for Roberts to get focused coaching and preparation most freshmen bigs never do. The silver lining is this could make us a better team in February and March if Roberts steps up.

Marillac also might get Simon at PF!
