Keeping Up With Old Friends Thread

Not necessarily an old friend but an old foe …Michigan’s Sophomore point guard Doug McDaniel who did a tap dance around our guards is pretty unhappy at Michigan and might be looking to bolt with two years left. After Pitino raved about him, he may be worth looking into.

I thought about him too. He’s definitely out at Michigan after his away game suspension. I wonder how that would sit with Pitino.

He’s the quickest guard I’ve seen all season bar none. Pitino might see Peyton Siva.

Cedric Jackson averaged 24 minutes in both seasons with us.
And, unlike Hardy or Brownlee, I don´t remember many fans saying that Jackson should have played more.
I always thought Jackson should have been playing less, FWIW.

The move to Cleveland State was a good one for him. He was facing, IMO, the appropriate level of competition. I'm still shocked he got in the NBA, even it was only briefly.

Not a popular opinion, but McLeod warranted more playing time when he arrived , but staff favored max playing time for Minlend. Yes a fan favorite, but imo Roshown was bigger and more skilled offensive player. I found Charles to be a hustling player, but somewhat robotic in the post.

It was such an achievement to get Roshown from St Anthony’s and as so often happens here we blew it. I think Duke would endorse the fact that McCloud was the guy to give solid minutes to out of the gate. He really helped them upon transferring.
McLeod also wanted a chance to play the 3, but during his time here, we had J. Scott, Lyuk, Barrett, Lyson and Beckett ahead of him. Now you might argue he could have seen time there his freshman year when Scott was playing the 2 and 3 but Felipe was the 2 and Scott the 3 in his sophomore year.

While McLeod was more athletic a might have had more skill than Minlend, Minlend’s production (13.6 Pts and 7.8 rebounds and 12.7 Pts, 8 rebounds) in the two years McLeod was here. After his unhappiness became known publicly (newspaper article) his last year, he even lost playing time at the 4 to Sergio.

He became the first transfer Coach K took (and over his career at Duke, he rarely took them afterwards) and averaged double figures both years including 15 his last year. He never got the steady time at the 3 but was drafted in the first round. His NBA career was cut short due to a career ending injury.

Your sentiments where shared by many.

Long time ago, so easy to forget that Minland was a very good player, as you point out. McLeod certainly should have been able to see more time (if the staff would have looked beyond his freshman status his first year), as many of those guys you mentioned were really not great. It was a shame to lose him, but he obviously made the right decision for himself.

In other news Rysheed Jordan posted some throwback pick to his dunk on Villanova. I commented that ‘he could played in league for sure’ and he liked it and said ‘TRUEFACTS’ so basically we are boys now.

So I got that going for me this fine Sunday! Now let’s beat the hall!

I don’t know if anyone saw this but there was a game between a top BE team and one in the basement. Our old friend DAW struggled but in crunch time came up with some huge defensive plays to start breaks and some agressive drives to secure victory. He may not be the most talented player but his effort was east to route for. Best of luck in the tournament DAW.
