Keeping Up With Old Friends Thread

By far the best decision Lavin made was to put the ball in Hardy's hands. It reminds of my freshman year in college (back in the stone age). Our coach was new, and he made two position changes. He moved our second baseman to third, and moved an outfielder to second. This allowed an excellent hitter who was without a regular position to play everyday. It improved our offense and (unexpectedly) our defense as well. The result was that a team that was 8-21 the year before, went 19-11 the next year with almost an identical roster.

Sometimes the smartest thing a coach can do is correctly identify his personnel.

Most underutilized players since Louie:
1. Roshown McLeod
2. Dwight Hardy
Not a popular opinion, but McLeod warranted more playing time when he arrived , but staff favored max playing time for Minlend. Yes a fan favorite, but imo Roshown was bigger and more skilled offensive player. I found Charles to be a hustling player, but somewhat robotic in the post.

It was such an achievement to get Roshown from St Anthony’s and as so often happens here we blew it. I think Duke would endorse the fact that McCloud was the guy to give solid minutes to out of the gate. He really helped them upon transferring.

In the end, I don't think giving McLeod major PT was going to make a difference. Those teams were some of the most dysfunctional in STJ history. No team leader and a coach who couldn't get a handle on things.

Probably true, just needed to blow off steam considering how happy I was reading Big East Briefs confirming SJ was getting McLeod, hearing from local coaches what a catch he was and then “poof” & evaporation, story of my like as a SJ fan 😢

"most dysfunctional in STJ history". There's a lot of comp for #1

From the moment I saw Roshown, I kept wondering why he wasn't playing more. Mineland a nice player, but like Middleton, Ledlum, etc, undersized for the PF position in the Big East.

Another player who obviously should have been a starter.
