Keeping Up With Old Friends Thread

I agree that UCONN fans don't want to come to Jamaica. They are probably afraid of getting DWI tickets since they can't take Metro North and having their catalytic converters stolen during the game.
The fact that they don't want to come, doesn't mean that they won't come. They could turn this in to a crusade of sorts, inspired by retaliation. Could easily see them paying top dollar to buy up as many tix as possible on the resale market. And rest assured, even if there are only 500 of them, they will make their presence known and felt. And if they beat us badly, we'll have egg on our face.

I could see this backfiring. If it's my decision, I play this game at MSG.

Here is where I disagree. By being a menace to himself, Fraschilla was a menace to the program.

He tried to get a new contract (after a year) by having his agent float rumors that Texas was interested in him. His personality would never allow him to build a program.

They lost the first round NCAA game to Detroit Mercy because he was wound way too tightly.
Funny story that i known is 100% true. When Fran floated that he had interest from.another school, what Fran didn't count on is that our AD was very friendly with the AD of that school. So EM called and asked, "What's this about you speaking with Fran about a job at your school?" The response was "I've never spoken to Fran in my life." Or something to that effect. Dumbass.

Totally agree with everything above.

We almost beat them in their backyard with probaly zero SJU fans there.
Goal should be to beat them because we are the BETTER TEAM regardless of the venue.

If SJU has the "typical Rick teams are better in year #2 effect" and our fan base turns out, we could still have a majority (70% ?) of fans.

Goal should be to make MSG Our House not their's.

Play and BEAT them at MSG and make it Our House.

Ran into Calipari and Fran together a few times in the Bronx when Fran was coaching Manhattan, Cal at UMass. It was no secret that Cal was Fran’s mentor back then always urging him to think big and look at other schools per a hoops guy I know.

That’s ok, but Fran then lands a bigger job here and as noted overplayed his hand and screwed himself. Am sure his “mentor” thought under radar exploration of ASU job was smart. With a super returning Artest led group, how did that work out? Pick your mentors wisely 😇

I was joking around. I appreciate all of your posts. Have a great New Years!

I'd imagine when Fran got caught in a big lie, Cal advised "Tell sju you have cancer".

Pitino has a lot of Parcells in him. Everything to the press is calculated and there is a message behind it. Everything. Whether directed at his own staff, team, individual players, the school, the conference or fans. We aren’t used to that. Enjoy the ride.

Facts! We’ve been mediocre for so long, it’s only natural for nitpicking here and there, rotations, substitutions, defensive strategies, etc…
However there is a plan with incredible detail, our 9-4 start has more upside than any other (e.g 11-1 last year). Enjoy the ride indeed and be grateful we have a head coach of this magnitude.

Two important words to our fans to make this happen.

Show up!

Not a chicken and egg.

Show up = home court advantage and much better chance to win.

Wait till we win to show up, and they have homecourt advantage at msg and better chance to win.

Fraschilla with his usually unfunny dig at SJU whenever possible. Strange how his a** still hurts from being let go here, when it was all his doing and he wanted out.

How did the coaching career go after moving on to New Mexico? It’s only been 20 years since that gig had a Fraschilla-esque ending.

Of all the coaches since Carnesecca, Fraschilla is the one I dislike the most (yes, that includes Jarvis). At least Fraschilla had an AD in charge who knew what he was doing with the basketball program.

Also, I doubt Fraschilla would have had the success Jarvis did coaching the same group because in keeping with his personality, he would have somehow imploded.
I just realized today the Fran has me blocked on Twitter. I wonder if he’s got the two of us confused.

Fraschilla could beat his wife and kick his dog and I'd still dislike jarvii more. ;)

Maybe I will be lucky enough to run into Calipari and Fraschilla one day…with a car.

I kid. I kid.
