Keeping Up With Old Friends Thread

Louie had an excellent back up point guard who was far superior to Bobby Kelly, his name was Kevin Williams. It took Louie 1.5 seasons of them playing together for him to start playing Kevin much more than Bobby. Kevin ended up being a second round pick.
I always thought that Kevin had a lot of talent but it seemed like he was always in Looie's doghouse for some reason

If memory serves me the ref that made that call was Dick Slomkowski, notable because he was actually from Fairport NY, Syracuse suburb.
You are correct. Slomkowski made the call. The three 3 refs gathered for a brief huddle, Crowley, Slomkowski and Charles Diehl. Crowley who was head referee emerged from the huddle and emphatically confirmed the call.

Did I mention the name of a single player? Pitino spoke openly in press conferences of the reports, singling out Soriano and Traore as the only players who were talked about positively. Not sure where you are coming from lecturing me, as I said, I have never mentioned a single players name in regards to Coach Macon.
Generalizations are even worse!!!

What generalizations? You are the one generalizing since you can’t name a specific player; your complaint is pure nonsense. Pretty much a matter of public record or did you miss Pitino’s press conferences regarding the roster turnover?
Sorry, but you are dead wrong in criticizing me, and I sure don’t take direction from you or anyone else on what I post, outside of the mods if I violate board policy. I’m not sure why you went there but really couldn't care less. Have a good one, my last word on the subject with you.

Not taking sides but if Panther is lecturing, I know I can stand to learn something.

No one is at more practices than Panther, every home game, knows more players and coaches (current and former), and knows more of what going on and what has gone on. He's a guy that administration, players AND coaches go out of their way to greet. Everything he knows is typically first or second hand and he keeps the negative stuff to himself.

He rarely if ever criticizes any players. I've been on the receiving end of of a lecture by him and i can only say it's like being lectured by your parish priest, and is almost always right. If he says something it's with good reason.

In short there is no one, no one as respected as him. So when people say consider the source, push comes to shove, Panther is a source that is dearly respected and loved around st. Johns.

I wasn’t there but I recall for years afterwards St. John’s fans yelling ”Mickey, it was a charge!!!

The Syracuse call was a killer but the call was that charge or block tough decision but the De Paul/ Comegys non call I think was worse because it was so obvious and kept SJU from advancing in the NCAA tournament.

Appreciate your kind words. I just try to be objective. The other part is I never post during games, I am either too busy cheering or cursing, depending on the situation, lol. Situations change so fast, that players can go from goat to hero or vice versa in a matter of minutes.

As far as player criticism is concerned, other than saying a player had a good or bad game, I don't feel anything else is necessary. At this point in my life, I just try to be as positive as possible.

Give them only the new seatbacks.

It does raise a real question: can student tix be resold on open market? I dont know how that whole thing works since ca is free for them. Does the id card work for admission? That doesn't make sense but i do believe uconn fans would buy tixkets any way they can.

I don’t see UCONN fans by and large wanting to head to Jamaica. Maybe I’m wrong but I have never felt that they have come out in large numbers in Newark. I guess there would be a spite factor? Fran likes to take shots at SJU, I see this as nothing more than another one of them.

Fraschilla with his usually unfunny dig at SJU whenever possible. Strange how his a** still hurts from being let go here, when it was all his doing and he wanted out.

How did the coaching career go after moving on to New Mexico? It’s only been 20 years since that gig had a Fraschilla-esque ending.

Of all the coaches since Carnesecca, Fraschilla is the one I dislike the most (yes, that includes Jarvis). At least Fraschilla had an AD in charge who knew what he was doing with the basketball program.

Also, I doubt Fraschilla would have had the success Jarvis did coaching the same group because in keeping with his personality, he would have somehow imploded.

Sry, but with all due respect, Fran was mostly a menace to himself, Jarvis was a menace (or destroyer) to the program. And Fran has been pretty objective, my mind, when on our games.

I agree that UCONN fans don't want to come to Jamaica. They are probably afraid of getting DWI tickets since they can't take Metro North and having their catalytic converters stolen during the game.

Here is where I disagree. By being a menace to himself, Fraschilla was a menace to the program.

He tried to get a new contract (after a year) by having his agent float rumors that Texas was interested in him. His personality would never allow him to build a program.

They lost the first round NCAA game to Detroit Mercy because he was wound way too tightly.
