Keeping Up With Old Friends Thread

😂
Add Bobby Kelly
Kelly was never a behavioral problem, as far as I know. His performance was the problem, as he was the weak link on a very good team, but as I explained before, he injured his knee or ankle after he transferred from Holy Cross to SJU. I was told by an AAU coach who coached against him that the player we saw at SJU was not the player he used to be. I watched him, at MSG vs Cincinnati, when he started in the HC backcourt, with Ron Perry. He was much quicker. Get mad at Louie for not having a better back-up point.

I just read this thread and can't really believe what I'm reading, the former players were all Johnnie's who we loved while they were here and I wish them all well but let's be honest the won absolutely nothing here and were upset there not here anymore! What am I missing and a video tribute is truly comical! We got Ricky P that's honestly all we need the players will come and go! Let's move on.......

I do find it a little sad that winning is clearly necessary for some to think its valid to show love to former players.

Maybe my perspective on this differs because I have never seen SJU win an NCAAT game, but doesn't that set a bit of a morbid precedent. For the past 20 years, we have seen a long list of players come and go from St. John's.

none of them have won an NCAAT game while they were here. I'll even take it a step further, NONE OF THEM won a Big East Tournament Quarterfinal while they were here. Isn't that something? Doesn't sound like we had a lot of winners to me.

Despite that, we loved the teams and the players and rooted like hell for them. I don't see the problem with giving Posh a nod for being a big part of that for 3 years. People can play "Oh should we just give out video tributes to ANYONE then" card... but you know Posh in particular was more than that. He was a huge piece of our team when he was here. Not an all timer, when you examine his place in St Johns lore, but he still was a big piece. So again, I still do think it would be classy to thank him for his time here during a timeout. I'll concede that it doesn't have to be full on tribute video, but maybe just a note on the big screen during a TO. I'd even write the damn note if some in the athletic department is reading this LOL. PM ME. And if the school isn't going to do that, then shoutout to the fans who will be clapping when his name is introduced. Thats cool too

Posh was one of my favorite players in recent years. Unfortunately his role was impacted by the "Curbelo Experiment". However, I don't think that a tribute video would be appropriate. Supposedly he had an opportunity to return (circumstances not clearly known). He will be giving 100%+ to beat SJU at CA. I can't imagine that Rick or our new players would be comfortable with a video for an "opposing player". It's fine that the fans give Posh a well deserved welcome during the player introductions.
Enough about posh already give it a rest go watch his team if you like him so much lol

I’d love a Curbelo popcorn video tribute though

Louie had an excellent back up point guard who was far superior to Bobby Kelly, his name was Kevin Williams. It took Louie 1.5 seasons of them playing together for him to start playing Kevin much more than Bobby. Kevin ended up being a second round pick.

Random thought: wonder if they’ll have a tribute video for Alleyne. Contributor on a national championship team

also made me think: I hope we do thank you videos when Posh and Wusu come to play us. Gave several years to our program!

I’m all for a video tribute as long as we have a pre game parade in Posh’s honor. And then if Butler wins Jack can hoist Posh on his shoulders and parade around the court. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
