Two two time rumored portal target Ugonna Onyenso is on this Kansas State team. He got minimal minutes in their first 5 games of the season but didn't play in their last 3. He must be hurt since they won their last game by almost 50 and he still didn't play. A pretty expensive non contributor sitting on the end of their bench combined with probably one of the 3-5 most expensive guys in all of CBB in Coleman Hawkins who hasn't been good so far this season.

I think we match up fairly well with them but Aaron Scott is going to have to play big minutes and stay out of foul trouble. All 10 of Kansas State's most common lineups include two of Hawkins (6'10), David N'Guessan (6'9) and Achor Achor (6'9). Both Hawkins and Achor are athletic and can stretch the floor while N'Guessan is more paint bound. If Scott is in foul trouble or just not having a good day it'll probably be Prey that will need to step up and I'm not sure he's ready for that yet.

We should have an advantage at the 2 and 3 spots as long as we don't let Hausen get clean looks. Pitino did a good job stopping him last year so hopefully that continues. We'll have the athleticism advantage in that matchup regardless of who we have out there. Their other starter Max Jones won't be able to keep up with Luis and hasn't been too much of an offensive threat. He's efficient but not on a ton of volume and was pretty invisible against the two decent teams they've played this year.

Their backcourt and wing depth is their biggest problem and should be where our biggest advantage is. They don't really have a dependable PG behind Dug and their other guys can shoot a bit but are pretty much zeros defensively. There should be enough advantageous matchups for us at any given time to get the shots we want.

For all of us old timers here, an quick post from a K-State board about a local player (Canarsie HS) who transferred into SJU from K-State in the Seventies. Didn't turn out well here either. Something happened on a bus trip.

"The player that I am thinking about is Curtis Redding. Curtis Redding could have been the greatest Wildcat of all time. He averaged almost 17 as a freshman & over 18 as a sophomore without the 3 point line or shot clock. He got under opposing fans because he played with a flair not nearly as common as it is today. He & Mike Evans led the Cats to be the only team to beat the Soviets when they toured the US in 1978.

Muh like Nigel his sophomore year did not go well for KSU as a team as they struggled and could never get things going. I was only 8 years old when he was last a Cat, so I don't have strong memories of him or that team, but he left KSU after a stellar 2 years and transferred to St John's. If he would have stayed, he would have played with Rolando for a couple years.

I have no ideas on why he transferred...He might of had a falling out w Hartman or maybe he was homesick and wanted the bright lights of NY (maybe some older posters can shed some light), but at St John's he only averaged 9 pts in his lone year playing in a worse conference. Got drafted in the 8th round & never made an NBA team."

A transfer that didn't work out too well.
