Justin Simon Has Committed

Can't go wrong getting players from Mich St and Arizona no matter how they turn out

Yes
Because they bat 1000% in every single player that picks their school and none ever turn out to be duds.

Yeah your right. You know Felipe Lopez was the #1 ranked HS kid in the country and he didn't work out as we all hoped so I would rather never get the #1 ranked kid. Also you know having the #1 pick in the NFL or NBA draft doesn't always work out so would probably just be better to get the 15 pick. Nothing is 100% except for Death, Taxes, Me double bogey any hole following a birdie or par and Tishas Restaurant in Cape May NJ. Only restaurant I have ever gone to where I have never had a bad meal!

Moose what did Lavin do to you? Prior to you turning on him you were the equivalent of a Wrestling good guy. This 'heel" turn you have taken while ammusing at first has become pretty depressing. What is next? Typing in all caps and calling yourself Real Moose?

What does my statement have to do with Lavin? He's not the coach here anymore.

No problem with Simon and Clark just the reason of they're coming from Arizona and Mich St is pretty poor IMO

Prior to you turning on Lavin you were pretty positive. You have since become cynical and depressed. I think we might have to start an intervention.

Nausea and vomiting, cynicism, clinical depression, suicidal thoughts, etc . Don't under estimate the Lavin impact on our fan base. I've been in recovery since he left. Just now finally starting to turn the corner.

Welcome aboard Justin!!!

Getting old sucks :)

See I blame Lavin for your heel turn.
From what I remember you were slow to finally turn on Norm, so I guess you are pretty loyal by nature. Or just have a really high tolerance for bad basketball. Then, and I totally give you credit for this even if it was just a guess you were one of the first people to start throwing around Lavin's name as a potential replacement. Lavin comes gets off to a really good start then things start to sour. You then turned on Lav's much quicker than you did Norm which somehow scarred you emotionally. That is my diagnosis anyway. :)

Couple things and then we can go back to Simon Says.

I gave Norm 4 years. By year 5 I wanted him gone.
I never threw out Lavin's name before he was hired. I mentioned his name when UCLA canned him back in 03 and was surprised his name popped up when we hired him. Pleasantly surprised but then quickly saw how much of a fraud he was. Yes I keep using that word and will use it until the day I die.

Guess I'm just tired of rooting for a losing team. Also to be honest as I've gotten older I care less and less about sports in general.

See does go back to Lavin because he did give us hope even if it was false hope. Program was a disaster. Lavin at least changed that to more of a disappointment then a disaster. We are back to a disaster but we are going in right direction and these two guys are two solid pieces in that direction. Again it might not turn out well but no downside that I can see getting these two kids.

I really don't want to have to go through every tweet, but if he's complaining that there aren't enough NYC kids on the roster, maybe the AAU guys shouldn't have kicked us in the balls when we were down and helped us get some local kids. I want kids who want to be here, and I don't care if they are from Italy, Germany, or Mali.

But if he's complaining about something else . . . I guess I still don't care enough to read his crap.

Welcome Mr Simon. Love the size and that we now have a couple of solid pieces already in the wings who should both be ready to contribute to the 2017 season.

This was Simon's scouting report from ESPN at this time last year (ranked #37 by them)

Strengths
Simon is a rangy point guard who has improved all aspects of his game. He pushes the ball well in the open court, has terrific vision, and his passing is special in the open court. He is an outstanding athlete who affects the game with his length, assertiveness, and IQ.
Weaknesses:
Simon has made some progress with the consistency of his much-maligned jump shot. However, he still needs to smoothen out his release and get on balance when squaring up for his shot. In addition, improving his point guard skills (high screen and roll) and not leaving his feet while passing should improve his efficiency.
Bottom Line:
Simon is one of the more intriguing prospects out west due to his perimeter skill set, energy, and energy. If his jump shot comes around, his upside is immense

Yup, plus you figure he made some improvement in his year at Arizona.
One would think Mullin and Richmond have about as much shooting expertise as you'll find anywhere.

Bottom line is if we would have gotten him coming out of HS most on here would be ecstatic. Not that people aren't happy but don't get the few people questioning these moves

Sounds an awful lot like this analysis of another one of our former transfer players: "True point guard with excellent size. Can handle and pass in addition to run a team when he decides to take charge. Capable scorer inside the arc off the dribble but must work to improve shot and extend range. Can rebound and defend both guard positions very affectively. Motivation is the key to how good he will become."

As always, I temper my expectations.

And even nasty Doug Gottlieb likes the direction of program;

"Johnnies going to be most improved team in America next season"

World ends in ten seconds :)
he must have just smoked a joint with weed bought on someone's credit card he stole

yesterday was 420

Kid is way better athlete than Branch though

I still maintain that Branch was a better player than his production indicated. He was never used properly or consistently.
He was the only true pg on the team capable of running a pick n roll and penetrating. But we never gave him the chance to start and play 3-4 games in a row with the 1st unit. He would come in with hooper and God's gift.

Jordan we found out wasn't even at practice most of the time, and Green was an avg shooting guard w no vision or bball IQ Yet we gave those two most of the point guard minutes.

When you think about it in the next two years we will finally have at least 9 or 10 players who will get plenty of playing time instead of the usual 7 to 8. That spells competition amongst our players, plus not so much worry about anyone getting in foul trouble. Good job Mullin and staff.

The idea is to get as many good players as you can then pick best 8 or 9 and play them. Playing more than 8 or 9 never works.
Nova played 8
Cuse played 7
UNC played 8
Oklahoma barely played 7 as their top 2 reserved averaged like 12 minutes a game

anyone see the PSA Cardinals coach calling us out on Twitter. What the hell is up with that

I just saw that particular tweet. That is one of a few reasons why I don't care where our recruits come from, per their locale. Some people are so, caught up in NYC recruits, when it doesn't matter where they come from, as long as they can play ball, IMO.

This staff has shown themselves all over the area, and this is what they get in return. Now, I know the PSA coach doesn't speak for all the area coaches, but it just reiterates one of the reasons why I wouldn't care about having a team of mainly out-of-towners.

By the way, solid job by the staff, per landing Clark and Simon. If they nab Livingston, and things break our way during the season, then we could find possibly find ourselves amongst the top 6 teams in the Big East.

I was thinking 14/15 wins next year, but add Livingstone an d we're probably top6 in the B.E. 18-19 wins could get us into the NIT as Redmennorth said.

I'd say Sima is our C, Livingston PF, Yakwe SF, Lovett PG, Ellison SF (Unless Ponds just tears it up in practice.)
We'll have a nice bench too.

Welcome Justin, looking forward to watching you play.
