Jordan was pitiful, but to his credit his demeanor was great. He was respectful to the staff and the officials and he looked like he was trying to be a good teammate. Baby steps I guess.
He needs to give us more. I can live with the 0-6, but his defense wasn't strong and he only had one board all game. His biggest contribution to this team is his defense and rebounding...that should never be off.
Was not surprised by 2 airballs and zero for 6 after I saw him miss 2 layups during the warmup drill
I want to chalk it up to nerves because it was his first game back and he knew everyone back home would be watching him play nova a Philly team.
Maybe last night was the best thing that could've happened to sheed. Now he can probably stop worrying about the nba cause he's not getting drafted, and just focus on playing hard for the team

Assuming his main interest is the team.
He cam here with a REP as a all around guard. he has shown flashes of potential and apparently many feel he has NBA Potential.
But, after 1 and 1/2 seasons we are still waiting to see the 5 star game we all envisioned. Throw in a series of " issues,"and he hasn't really delivered the expected play.
Will he improve the parts of his game that need work? or, will this young man line up in the parade of top 50 players that turn out to be busts?
Coaching help? I think, even, the most ardent Lavin supporter doubts Steve has the ability to Coach this kid up..
Is it me or am I missing something but, does Whitsell ever say anything in timeouts or on the bench? Doesn't look like Steve talks to anybody but, Rico. And, HINES appears to offer very little , except where they are going to live back in Calif? Or, how much they can eat after a late nite game in Manhattan.

Good post.
Jordan has the potential for sure, but from what I hear, he really needs to cut ties with his Philly life and treat basketball and college like it's his full time job. Just become totally absorbed in his new life.
I hope somebody can get through to him.

Prognosis poor w/o John Lucas type intervention a good distance away fromPhilly. One of his problems is SJU is too close to home Imo. Posse calls & he splits.

And they make most/all of his SJU games at home. He'd have been better off to have chosen a school far away.
He should read Charles Barkley's book. In it Barkley responds to those criticizing him for not "keeping it real", by not hanging out with the guys he grew up with in his neighborhood in Alabama. His response, not exactly as Jordan's would be is essentially the following: "I AM 'keeping it real'. I am now a successful pro athlete and have little in common with the guys I grew up with in the streets. I don't have or need a posse. I've moved on with my life and 'keeping it real' isn't hanging out with guys from my past."
Not that Jordan is a star, but he is a college student, and a D1 player. To get the most out of both, he can't have these guys in his ear constantly, like he's a meal ticket out for them. He can hang with them in the summer, during semester break, but he should immerse himself into SJU life, and it will benefit him greatly on the court and off.

A girlfriend on campus would fix that. Maybe that should be the top recruiting priority right now.

I was at the game and didn't realize he played.

I was there too, kept looking at Jordans #s and kept that 0pnts.
I kept thinking maybe he should have stayed home
With most or all of the starters gone, concerned that there will be no "big brothers" here to convince Jordan to stay. Where he ends up is hard to say.

Horrible game. I'm sure he didn't try to have a horrible game, so let's be positive, hopes he shakes it off. He made an amazing pass to Obekpa who blew a dunk, and missed two nice drives to the hoop by not finishing. The season is only 1/2 over. Sampson had a horrible start last season also. Let's hope he gets it in gear and finishes strong.
Last night's game for Rysheed was an aberration and it is on our wizard of a coach who should have used him sparingly since his head was not in the game and, if there was a game plan to beat Nova, was absent team practice and video reviews. I was sure, as others, that JDR and Amar would get minutes to counter Ochefu and rest Chris and Pointer in spurts. Watching Pointer and Harrison trying to guard the Nova bigs was cruel and unusual punishment for StJ's fans. Shame on Lav on so many levels! With intelligent substitutions this team can win the next 3 games.
