Jordan Status?

I always thought it was very odd that Jordan has not been made available to the media for a year and a half.

Given that Jordan is more than eager to jump to the pros, this recent incident can't be doing him a whole lot of good with those who will ultimately determine his fate down the road.

Jordan is obviously a very talented athlete but isn't even close to being NBA ready. He makes too many bad decisions with the ball and has not demonstrated that he has a reliable jump shot. I wish him well, hope that he works through his personal/family issues and look forward to seeing him back on the court real soon.

@rumbleSBN: #sjubb RT @JasonKingBR: Rysheed Jordan's leave of absence from St. John's is, in part, b/c he's grieving loss of grandmother who died Fri.

In part??? What Friday? The Friday of the stomach virus or yesterday, the day he was told to take a hike? For the doubters, would it be possible to see a death certificate? If his grandmother died what bad timing by Lavin to impart a lesson on the kid. He milked his own father's death by taking a week off and mourning him for the remainder of the season. He has been milking his prostate cancer for three years and needed a year off to recover but devoted his energy to recruiting which never paid off. Not sure how much stock to put into any stories about the players or our coach any longer.

A little extreme don't you think?

Yes. We have drama, suspense, mysterious absences, lies, exaggerations and yet the ticket prices have always gone up. After this season I am going to start a rebate campaign.

Remember a few years ago, their was a flour shortage. Bagel prices went up to near a dollar from 50 cents. Flour shortage over but bagel prices still near a dollar. Prices will not come down.

How can we expect to field a nationally competitive team in a city where everything costs more than anywhere else by charging less per ticket. Perhaps that's part of the problem, that we have to pay a premium to get a coach to come here when they can live far better on less somewhere else. The cost of housing is high here, state income tax is almost 10%, and many other things just cost more.

That explains why Syracuse pays Jimmy B less and gets more I guess.

Same with Looie here. Sometimes you get lucky and find a lifer who is content to stay where they are for less than they may be worth.

We paid dearly for the "Lavin" name brand! The man had not coached in 7 years! He had one self proclaimed "great" recruiting class but it was made up of misfits. Our talent search skills have been abysmal. It has nothing to do with lifers.

The more I think about this whole situation, especially with Lavin's response to if he'll ever play here again "we don't have enough information", and the hints that is this actually a suspension as a result of bad behavior over the years, I think it's pretty clear. My guess is he's taking the time to seek out a hardship waiver to transfer to a school close to his home and determining if it's possible. Like I've stated, I'm sure we'll know more by the start of the 2nd semester. If that's truly what he's doing (I'm just guessing), do we really want him back if he decides to stay in the end?

Trying to think this whole thing through logically. I understand that Keady said before the game that the problem is that Jordan is 19 years old, and 19 yr olds don't always make good decisions.

I have a feeling Jordan will be back. He's definitely getting some bad advice from some shaky people he hangs around with, HOWEVER - he's not likely going to transfer. A guy who wants to go to the NBA isn't going to sit out for an entire year, and then like have to play another season to prove himself. If he realizes he also not going to get drafted this year, he may come back in a few games, if Lavin will have him. The wild card is that he saw that Sampson didn't have a great year last year and is on an NBA roster, but of course a kid who quits on his team is not getting invited to an NBA camp, and guards are much more plentiful.

I'm guessing we haven't seen the last of him. Just a wild guess though, and not on a hope and prayer.

Doesn't make sense to me. For someone who expects to play in the NBA why give up any possible chance by leaving his team. Unless, of course, he uses his mother's condition to transfer locally. This poor kid is really mixed up and needs help. I still believe when he was relegated to the sixth man spot this helped an already bad situation. Doesn't mean he's right but I have to wonder how much time was given to counseling him by the staff. And why not!
As mentioned, by a poster, on JJ apparently he has gone AWOL quite often, showing up in Philly and missing practices, team functions etc...obviously something going on with him...not gettng good advice...doesnt help him with scouts etc...
i believe that this kid is nothing but headaches for the staff! Get rid of him! He is a poor representation of the team as well as the University! Unfortunately this misfit has Lavin by the proverbial balls! Easy call for me, tough call for Lavin since it could mean his job!

He won't be back to st johns in my opinion. His entourage won't allow it

Without knowing what's going on, he seems to be too high maintenance for me
If that's the case, good riddance - addition by subtraction

Could be. Although he would have to sit out a year. Makes no sense considering he is on a top 25 team.

Keep an eye on Temple.

Can't see him sitting out a year to play college ball again.

Can't see him having any shot whatsoever of playing NBA ball next year.

He's getting very bad advice. His entourage are a bunch of "friends" hanging on to the "fame" of a kid who hasn't proven his NBA worthiness one bit. An total idiot listens to idiots. Someone with half a brain listens to people who are smart enough to give him good advice.

Good riddance? We'd be lucky to finish with a .500 conference record without him. That means NIT. Hardly good riddance!!

A hard waiver (his mom is ill.)

If he gets a hardship waiver can he play next semester. If so that's the only thing I can see from Jordens perspective.

@becb_sbn: Steve Lavin expects Rysheed Jordan to be back at some point.

@becb_sbn: "We want him back, we expect him to be back" That's the direct quote. So. Not a ton of new information.

Apparently from Fox interview today.

Like Fun says if we have anymore addition by subtraction we should bee in the NCAA finals. One ankle twist to a starter and we are done.

Hardship waiver would allow him to play immediately, I believe.

@pcbb1917: Lavin really didn't expand on anything but hinted that it's more than just family stuff w/ comments about maturity #sjubb #InsideTheBigEast

love the constant avatar pic changes. :)

im sorry but i have a different perspective than most of you. Im upset, but not at Lav, at JORDAN!! This is a TEAM, i know its easy to cast judgement on Lav since he is at the helm. I for one applaud the way he runs a team. I like the discipline he is trying to instill in the program. They should all be focused on the TEAM aspect. If by chance Jordan is not focused on school work, or upset over not starting, or any other issue he is having trouble dealing with....I applaud Lav for giving him the leave. Now that being said, he could be leaving because of a legit family reason....but if its anything besides the fact of his ill Mom, he needs to be with his TEAM! These guys have developed such good chemistry together, its so hard to see it fall apart. I feel for DLo, and the other Srs. These guys have put so much into the program, it was finally starting to pay off. If Jordan thinks he is going Pro, that could be the funniest thing Ive heard in awhile. He is so far from a Pro player that he needs every bit of his years at St Johns to get him ready. Go down ANY D-League roster, its riddled with great college players who left way too early. Im just as nervous as anyone that the recuits have not come, but I do trust in Lav. We've also had our share of bad bad luck. It seems we are never meant to be...this could of been the year. I hope there is a turn of events and that somehow Jordan reappears on the team. Is it no coincidence that Jordan is not allowed to speak to the media ? The kid obviously has some issues. Lets hope DLo, Dom, IV can convinve Lav and Jordan its not too late, reconcile, and lets go beat Nova!

hasnt coached? Really ? We were just # 15 in the COUNTRY! Obekpa has developed into a legit force who is going Pro. We were 11-1 with a team that lost two legot bigs before game one. I think he is coaching great this year. You guys are dreaming if you think any other coach can comein here in the same situation and get better results.

Fascinating to see how this board can go from positive to negative in the space of seven days. Last week there was no talk of replacing Lavin, now we're getting all the usual suspects names put out as replacements. This board would make for an interesting study in human behavior. :cheer: ;)

Good. Like it or not we need him back. I hope this all gets resolved ASAP because although we lost our ranking we are still in good shape for a tournament berth which was the goal all along.

Edit: that it, good shape as long as the whole team is together.
