Jon Scheyer

We are NOT lower end. With all our misery, we play in the Media Capital of the USA. We play in MSG, we have the press that posts NATIONAL HEADLINES. If we make the right hire, we will media darlings again. We will have the city back on our side. Queens isn't the worse place for a college campus, We are the 9th winningest program in College Basketball. We have been down for a long time, but we could come out of the ashes and soar. WE JUST NEED THE RIGHT GUY TO COACH US.

have to assume the $ guys will get a vote
I'm assuming that's a good thing?

If Cragg thinks he can sell this inexperienced hire to a beaten down fan base then he doesn’t have the pulse of what has went on here the last 27 years and will not be too long for this job

If Cragg brings in Scheyer, it would remind me of Mullin and Mitch Richmond. Let me go for the familiar face, regardless of experience. St. John's doesn't sell itself. Need a HC who has won at multiple programs. Those guys just get it done.

If it's not coming from Paultz, Fordham, Panther .... etc and no disrespect if I forgot a few posters here, but I'm not putting any water in it.
I have absolutely no idea. I believe that Mike Cragg is the only person who knows what is going to happen. I have confidence that he will make a choice that will benefit St Johns because his legacy depends on getting it right.

I don't believe Coach Scheyer will be hired unless other candidates (plural) are exhausted however IF he is named St. John's men's head basketball coach then I ask my fellow Redmen.comers to keep an open mind.

Bringing in 2 middle aged Hall of Famers who were college and nba stars and never coached a day in their lives reminds you of a young very good college player who didn’t play in the nba and has been working as an assistant under the greatest coach of all time ?

Interesting...perhaps you can help me in making the connection. I’m not seeing it.

Scheyer is not my favorite choice either but the guy is clearly a worker if he works under Coach k - those guys never stop working. He will create a culture. K doesn’t advise these guys leave until they are ready - wojo and Dawkins turned down tons of offers before they left. If Scheyer leaves its bc K thinks he can do it, and if K thinks he can do it...he may be an even better option than we realize.

That will be difficult, and extremely frustrating.

Assuming there is some smoke to this fire, I don’t have a feeling one way or another about this coach because I have no body of work to glean from. Only that it is ttruly a high risk high reward proposition, so our AD must really like him to bring him on board, other that the likely inviting price tag. That being said, I would lean towards a program rebuild as opposed to the risk and short term “fix” with Pitino, which invites NCAA scrutiny and looks like the Larry Brown situation at SMU.
Scheyer is not coming here. He doesnt have experience, still learning on the job.
That didn't stop the last hire.

It's finally happened !

I finally agree with those who supported Mullin on here

This site IS in fact borderline unreadable

What, you haven’t ordered your custom-made #30 Duke jersey yet?

OMG, no doubt, and he's not a candidate on most of our lists, but the guy--or anybody else--would deserve a fair chance to prove his worth.
But yes, hope this is not the case.
I actually like that everyone hates it. Lol I watched a lot of Duke all access this season, came away thoroughly impressed with how Analytical Scheyer was with the game. We hired a guy that never coached at any level in his life and people thought we were back. At least Scheyer was under coach K, is young, and actually recruited before albeit for Duke. Maybe we get a Norm Roberts, maybe we get a college Sean Mcvay, either way, it excites me more the Cleuss and Hurley. If he is hired, welcome him and hope for the best, we have had worse.
I would not agree with the hire, but yes i would support the guy and root like hell he could turn us around. Just think he'd be better off doing OJT at a mid-major first...like maybe at Iona. Lol. (Inferring nada, just having fun.)
