So much to love about this move. Some risk, but there was going to be risk with anyone, albeit different risk. Chris is NYC and SJU through and through. I think we can pretty much eliminate the "jump ship for a better college job" concern. Hope he can get Slice here and get the Xaverian connection going. Great hire! Great day!

Apologies if my comment came off as harsh. I should have added an emoticon to take the edge off of it. Agree that bridges with HS coaches need to be strengthened or re-established, but times have changed considerably since Looie used tokens to recruit (including the price of tokens).

Did they attend Xaverian together? Slice would be an awesome hire. Watch how quickly those NYC High School and AAU coaches become oh so cooperative.

Here's a few things to consider:

1) This wasn't about having nothing to do. He had a job with the Kings.
2) This wasn't even about getting the best coaching opportunity - he was offered a pro job coaching the Kings and turned it down.
3) This wasn't about the money. He could certainly have made more in Sacramento.
4) To me, this was about two things, and two things only
a) Coming home, and
b) Restoring our program

a) will be achieved as soon as he inks his deal. It is where he belongs.
b) won't be easy, but I am confident he can do it. I'll be there when he does, and so will most of you.

Congratulations St. John's and Bobby G. You made your first decision a bold one.

Have you read my posts the week? Have you seen my avatar the last two weeks? I love the guy. That written, Slice and Matty A are both recruit-first assistants and Mullin hasn't been in the college game for a long time. It'd be nice to have a guy that knows the college game and is familiar with our Big East foes. Wanting an x's and o's guy to join the staff in no way undermines my faith in Mullin.
