Jon Rothstein: Mullin Likely To Take SJU Job

What are the chances a local low- or mid-major coach known for X's and O's who hasn't advanced in their career would leave to become an assistant here? It would likely mean a bump in pay, and increased visibility if we win.

Jason Kidd who was considered one of the highest basketball IQ players struggled drawing up Xs & Os as head coach of the Nets.

This will be a critical hire for sure.

Question: when can Slice be contacted? Not until after Kentucky's run is finished?

Really love Vaccaro 's writing. Positive SJU thoughts.

I will be wearing my St. John's hat tomorrow. Great news. No downside to this move.

I think we all understand who is in play for for the recruiting spots, but any thoughts as to who is in play for x's and o's?

Lou of course !! :p :p

Or maybe Terrence. After all, he's the one in the family with the coaching experience. :)
.

I don't think it's "if" we win under Chris Mullin (am I being too presumptuous? I don't believe so); also I saw Terrence at a game in alumni hall years back and he was scouting for NBA team(s)...so brings a few things to the table.
All the best

How about this scenario Jordan stays, Sampson stays, Calipari leaves and Briscoe comes to St. John's. Diallo, the Greek and the Italian signs.

Starting lineup
Briscoe
Sampson
Jordan
Diallo
Greek

Bench

Daughty
Italian
Amar

@TimBontemps: However, @HowieKussoy writes Barry Rohrrsen could join Mullin's staff. Would be a heck of a place for him to start:http://t.co/t9SlPJzTCm

Did they attend Xaverian together? Slice would be an awesome hire. Watch how quickly those NYC High School and AAU coaches become oh so cooperative.

Slice is about two or three years older, so they probably overlapped at Xaverian for a couple of years.

I must say there was a buzz at least in my section out in Syracuse with this possible signing. I couldn't believe, I was actually having conversations with Mich. St and other fans about this move.

Mullin didn't start at Xaverian until his junior year.
Spent first 2 years at Power Memorial.
Barry had just graduated.

Don't forget, Slice comes to SJU.

The funny thing is that is all entirely possible. Would be absolutely incredible. I'll take 75% of that happening any day.
