Jon Rothstein: Mullin Likely To Take SJU Job

@TimBontemps: However, @HowieKussoy writes Barry Rohrrsen could join Mullin's staff. Would be a heck of a place for him to start:http://t.co/t9SlPJzTCm

Did they attend Xaverian together? Slice would be an awesome hire. Watch how quickly those NYC High School and AAU coaches become oh so cooperative.

Slice is about two or three years older, so they probably overlapped at Xaverian for a couple of years.

Mullin didn't start at Xaverian until his junior year.
Spent first 2 years at Power Memorial.
Barry had just graduated.

Had forgotten about that (along with about half the memories I once had only a few years ago). Thanks for the clarification ... and mea culpa for the misinformation (which, come to think of it, probably qualifies me for being a basketball blogger).

Slice is a real Brooklyn guy....played pickup ball with a bunch of friends of mine prior to getting the Pitt job...Kentucky is a great gig but he will get no credit and will not moving back towards a HC position...If Cal leaves I can see hm reassessing

I find it funny that dude's will endorse a Masiello type, yet frown on Mullin because he hasn't coached before. Who would you rather talk to about hoops? A f'n walkon from Kentucky or f'n Mullin? Mullin knows more about hoops than all the combined posters here. Will bank on it that he will make it work.

@AdamZagoria: Early indications are that Chris Mullin is targeting some very strong recruiters w/ NYC ties...Will be developing in next few days.

I read that his Senior Advisor role had oversight of the college scouting department. I bet he has a good handle already on who he wants.

Clearly Chris gets how important it is to both our brand and to our success that he recruit the NYC area, in addition to recruiting nationally and internationally. Baffling to me how many posters still don't get that.

Hope to see Metta rocking at some games at the Garden.

Step 3 - Staff

That's the key. Needs a recruiter and x and o guy. I hope the school gives him all resources he needs.
A recruiter maybe, an X & O guy, I don't think so! This guy has forgotten more about this game than most coaches know! As far as this being a gamble hire, who in the mix would not be a gamble? My money is with Mullin!

I think we may see many of our ex-players returning to the fold and supporting the team. How great will that be?

Before he has to worry about a big man coach, he has to worry about a big man. ;)
