Jon Rothstein: Mullin Likely To Take SJU Job

I just asked my 13 year old son, "Do you know anything about Chris Mullin?" His response, "Yeah.... The dude who played for St. John's and the Warriors."

So, much for kids not recognizing Mullin.

**Now, I may have mentioned something to him about Mullin and St. John's awhile ago, but to my knowledge I don't recall.**

Dink, you're a huge SJU fan ... how could your son not know about Mullin?

One thing abut SJU basketball, and I know I'm not alone in this regard, is that an inordinate number of us have made redmen bball a family affair. Even though some of us have kids who went to different schools, a ton of them grew up on St. John's bball and are still fans.

He didn't know about Walter Berry 'til a week ago. Shelton Jones walked by us in Charlotte, and I told him he was a former St. John's player. His question, "Was he any good?" I said, "Jones was straight." Then, my son replied, "Did he play in the NBA?" I told him, "Yeah, he played for a few seasons."

Like I said, I may have mentioned Mullin to him. But if I did, it probably was several years ago. Frankly, I don't ever remember mentioning anything about Mullin to him. My son is like a sponge. Once, I told him to become an historian of the game (since he plays basketball), he started watching old clips of games or players.

Heck! He watched the "SEC Storied" on Sam Bowie. I was a bit surprised to see him watching that several months ago. Why would he even be interested in watching anything on Sam Bowie was my thought? He's soaking it up, and becoming an historian of the game.

I believe that's what they call a rhetorical question. (As for "... to my knowledge, I don't recall." Sounds like Congressional testimony in "Godfather II.")

I'll ask once more, is Chris andJax good friends? Could mark be the x and o's guy?

Nobody answered because it's absurd. Please move on and don't reply to this. These are good times.

It was it absurd, I was just wondering, wtf are you the one telling people what they could ask or not, now?

Sometimes taking gambles are necessary in order to get to where you want to be. If the Green Bay Packers did not take a huge gamble on a very unknown defensive coach from the NY Giants to restore their program, where might they be today? As we all know, that big gamble was the "great Vince Lombardi" and the Green Bay Packers are one of the most esteemed football teams in the NFL because of him!
Great Hire! I am so excited that I think I will write out a check!

Do you really see Mark Jackson agreeing to being an Assistaant Coach in College?

Why would Jax be the x and o guy? You really think Jax is a better basketball mind than Mullin?

Quite frankly I am wondering why people don't think Chris would be the X0 guy.

Won't happen, move on.

Excuse my ignorance but who is your new avatar?

Do some research. It will stop you from suggesting Mark Jackson. :)

Haha I actually never wanted Jackson. Pitino, Smart, or some other pipe dream? Sure. Was pointing out Jackson was a bigger name than Mullin but don't think he'd be a good hire. I'm happy with Mullin now. Good early vibes from assistants and recruits. Exactly what I wanted.

Also, figured out it's Matt Abdelmassih. Awesome.

Already talking to dad about my NY trip to see Mullin's opening night. First trip to AH in a decade but I can't miss this. I don't know who'll be on the bench but I know I'll be in the stands.

Jackson could not coach college ball. NBA has a 24-second shot clock versus 35-second clock in college. He'd have to have his team stand around 11 seconds before attempting to score. 10 second violation. I can't go on, I'm just so giddy. :p
