There used to be a formula for a medical redshirt who has played, it included the number of games played by the player and what that percentage equates to when compared to the number of games played by the team and when his last game was played. I believe the eight games played would be probably right on the cut off line.
I am pretty sure that the cut off is can't play in more than 30% of games and not during the 2nd semester. Not sure if that counts post season tournaments. Pinzon has played in 8 so the number of games shouldn't be an issue either way. The variable is it has to be accepted by whoever at the NCAA approves the redshirt that the medical condition was indeed season ending but I don't think they push too hard on that, it would look bad.
