I think we've been too hard on Cole and Moore.  Cole did win us a game.  Moore has done some good stuff.  Both need to be more consistent.
Covid pass this year.

Sometimes Jucos can step right in with no problems

Goodwin, Berry, Harvey, Porter, Thornton, Hayden

Sometimes it takes Jucos a year to adjust.

Scott, Hardy, Brownlee (although there are some who will argue the latter two were missed used their first year)

Others, what you see in their first year, is what you get

Forster, Mennefield, Bourgault

Others only got one year and we will never know

Sanchez, Patterson (Porter only got one year due to flunking out and while he might have been better his second year, he was goood that one year).

Jury is still out on Cole, Moore and hasn't even started reviewing Nyiwe's case as none has been made yet.

When Anderson feels Nyiwe is ready, he will give him some minutes.  His offensive sets will at first will be limited in terms of his responsibility.  Hopefully he gives us defense, rebounding and some garbage points when he does get in, you know what Toro was supposed to provide.

Porter did not flunk out...he disappeared from the team right after the NCAA game they lost in Utah I believe. Got off the plane and was ghost. Even Boo Harvey had no idea where he went.

Oh wait, maybe it was the game they lost to Florida.  Without Duane Schintiuz (sp?)

and if I recall they went with an iron man 5 and Vernon Maxwell killed us. We played right into their hands with our usual slow down half court offense instead of tiring them out as they had no bench.

Porter skipped his finals to go on vacation with his girlfriend.

Well, I guess you are correct if you are being very literal.  More than a handful of guys make a decision sometime during a season that it will be their final one in school.  They stop going to classes altogether as soon as the season ends.   Typically it's too late to withdraw, so their final grades are either F's or incomplete.   Regardless of what you say, it would render them ineligible for the ensuing season without a ton of maneuvering.   David Russell did that as a senior, and more recently Rysheed made a premature decision that he tried to undo to no avail in his final season for SJU.

Worst than that, we blew a 5 point lead with 40 seconds to go. Unforgivable foul calls on Terry Bross and Marco Baldi at the end of regulation allowed that phantom lane violation to be a factor. Cost us a sweet 16 match up with LSU. I'll never forget the tirade Bill Mazer dispayed on his Sports Extra show, basically ripping the refs apart.

Yes Porter left the team after that loss to Florida. The Gators showed up in SLC with only 7 eligible players, they dressed a manager and a walk on. We were favs but lost. We missed dunks, layups and open shots galore.
Porter left right then with another year of eligibility. Just disappeared. Rumors were he left the country with a girlfriend and went to the Bahamas to live.
Schintcus did play as did Maxwell and we had no answers for them. We lost 62-59, Maxwell had 18, Livingston Chapman had 11, Schintcus had 8. SJU got killed on offensive boards and Gators only shot 42% but still won.

Porter did flunk out or maybe you want to call it dropped out.  Porter was suspended for the game at Cuse for missing class/class work.  After the season he went to the Bahamas with his girlfriend.  His Fs by then was set in stone.

Boo became ineligible after that year due to grads and missed the next season as being ineligible.  There is an unconfirmed rumor that he was able to become eligible for the second semester, but we we a young not too good team that year and the decision was made to sit out the whole year and coming back the following one.

I believe Alan Seiden stopped going to classes after his senior season.

The last 15 posts were moved from the Nyiwe thread where they didn't belong at all to this one, where they're at least tangentially relevant.

And FWIW if I had to pick a SJU point guard to win me one game, it would be Boo Harvey.  Over Mark Jackson, Erick Barkley, even the great Marcus Hatten.  Boo was the definition of clutch.
