Johnnies Tidbits

Also if you are looking at 3 games in a week get it done sooner then later. Tourney time comes with the possibility of playing 3/4 games in 4/5 days.

It appears our home game with UConn will not be made up, unless they get an unexpected opening.
They are booked for 2 games a week throughout, so unless they make them play 3 games in a week, they will not make the trip to Jamaica.

Did you see anything official? Teams play 3 days in a row in some pre season tournaments so 3 in a week seems doable especially since the two school are in close proximity to each other.

Nothing official, however the Big East did announce all teams would not be able to complete its conference schedule. UConn still has 3 games to make up on their already revised schedule. Their bye-weekends (Feb 13 and Feb 27) are booked, while we will be idle. Alot can happen with unexpected postponements, but it's quite logistical nightmare.

Well just read Zach's article in the post where he wrote that the Uconn game is expected to be recheduled.

Well in the event it can't be rescheduled maybe we can replace it and schedule a game with Our Lady Of the Lake who Houston beat today 112-46.

Are any other BE teams going to play 20 games? Nova has played 7 so far to our 13...

I thought we are only playing 19 now because 2nd Uconn game was not going to be rescheduled.

I don't mind that.  As long as we get seeded above them for the BET...

Let's go Johnnies.  Have you noticed no one calls us Red Storm,  I think I know why.

Lavin says Johnnies,  Zach says Johnnies,  we are referred to in print as the Johnnies.  Red Storm is tough to stomach.

Wouldnt it be nice to get rid of that monicker?  If we can't have Redmen,  how about Johnnies?
.

Always nice to get national attention and well deserved imo -

Winner: St. John's stays hot with huge road win

Is there any team as hot right now as St. John's? In the Big East, that answer is unequivocally: No. The Red Storm ousted Providence as their latest victim Saturday, 92-81. It was arguably their most impressive road win of the season, and it comes amid a six-game winning streak that includes wins over Villanova, Marquette and UConn. This team is messing around and https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/bracketology/]dancing squarely into the tourney picture. A truly remarkable turnaround for a team that three weeks ago was 6-6 overall and 2-6 in league play.

A look at Big East team stats today as reported by ESPN is another indication that we are playing like a legit BE mid level team. Categories are rebounds, scoring, FG percentage, FT percentage, 3 point FG percentage, assists, steals & block. Only category where we are worse than 4th is rebounding where are 7th. We are first in scoring & steals, 2nd in assists, 3rd in blocks, 3rd in ft shooting, 4th in both fg and 3 pt fg percentage. Quite a jump from where we were 6 or 7 games ago.

Although 7th in overall rebounding, we are 4th in offensive boards per game. Something we have seen more of a concerted effort in lately.

We are the Redmen... period! In days of old , we were referred to jointly as the Redmen and Johnnies . It's how the Press described us . Used Interchangeably  .

This season must be gratifying for CMA.

After being canned at Arkansas, CMA's hiring at StJohn's was criticized by many in the national media and on this site because he "had no New York City ties".  He inherited a program with little or no Big East talent, remade the roster, introduced a new fast paced system, and is today proving his naysayers wrong in his gentlemanly way.

congratulations to CMA.  Beat Butler.

Reminds me of when the Yankees hired Joe Torre.
