Jermaine Lawrence

Lavin should have promised him the damn playing time. What a mess.

And I was on the verge of having faith in this this coach again. My mistake.

Sarcasm, right?

You kidding? Don't you read his posts?

LOL

Yeah.... I'm familiar with his tone. I was just wondering, whether he was clownin' around or not with that particular post. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.

JL non-arrival may also signal that Diallo ADR, Obekpa, Thomas, Jones, and others loom as more PT competition than JL and perhaps his handler wants and that he was trying to avoid a repeat of his first year at Cinci.

Stef:

This whole saga is B.S.
Who ever heard of a "handler" when we were kids?
Good riddance to J.L. and his "handler"
I would expect that they would be able to negotiate a better deal elsewhere

Was Jack Molinas a handler? Were the professional gamblers hanging around the cafeteria in Wash. Sq. when NYU was Div. 1 handlers? The weird thought that comes to mind in the midst of all this is what when Jarvis was head of NABC he made a speech condemning AAU ball influence and the need to work through the high school coaches, then came to SJU which was living off its Ernie Lorch Riverside pipeline, recruited lots of kids via AAU without talking to their high school coaches, and then decided why go small time, let's alienate everybody. Maybe handlers are a reaction to all the game the kids are getting in the recruitment process and the idea that they have and perhaps should not have any trust in the system. To the extent Lavin (as did Norm) maintains his integrity as an educator, I applaud him, even though I do not like his coaching style going back to UCLA.

If we get Carter from GT i commend Lavin. He knows what this team needs and it's players like Carter and not Jermaine.

I also hope we are still looking for another player for next year. I know there is next to nothing out there, but I hope we are still exploring.

My main source of info is this board and from reading the thread I agree with Jack W100%

Not specific to the topic at hand but if this is true you are horribly misinformed. ;)

But seriously as long as you know how to filter fact from fantasy you'll get the highest volume of information from the the fanatics on board, just have to learn which fanatics are taking their meds and you'll be cool.

Made me laugh. This board is crazy which is half the reason I read it the other reason to keep up with the team.

No, I meant it MJ. I'm venting a little bit sure. But a lot of top kids get a playing time promise, it's not like that is an unheard of request.
UK and Duke can afford to tell kids they'll have to compete for playing time. We can't.

For all our sakes I hope he lands Briscoe and Diallo, otherwise this whole Lavin-era is on the verge of looking like one big turd.

Now you just got me downright confused.

Just a thought, why can't or why wouldn't Lavin just go along with the "handler" and than when JL is on the team, handle the "handler"? If there is one thing for sure Lavin is good at it's schmoosing, and he can just talk her to death until she is just so confused and just can't take any more metaphors that she finally just gives up and basically goes away. Or maybe he can have his wife take her shopping in the city to keep her occupied.

One last thought. Even though I think it may be just a remote possibility maybe they tried to make a deal with Lavin and held firm in their demands, moved on to other locals hoping for Lavin to cave and when all is said and done will come back to Lavin and make some concessions in hopes of making a deal at the eleventh hour. Just a thought. Sort of like when we became heavily involved with Whitehead when they came to Lavin with their demands, difference being they had a better alternative in SH than what JL has. If you are truly a big time player how do you turn down BE, our schedule of pre season NIT, Hawaii. Duke, Syracuse, SEC challenge, and other big schools we are negotiating with to go to one of the mid major locals?

Can't disagree with the potential strategy...we are flawed but certainly present him better option than the others...his handlers are either playing the game as you say or this kid wants a guarantee that he is the man and will have green light to gun...while, as you noted in prior post, Lavin could agree (as many would) and then force the kid to adapt, it would more than likely result in chemistry problems and the team looking like last year's team...

I was interested in getting him solely because of his HS ranking but if he is trying to just put up numbers we have already seen what happens

@NYPost_Brazille: Fordham has expressed interest in Cincinnati transfer Jermaine Lawrence per source. Not too late I'm told for them to get involved.

Opponents will now go back to a "stop Harrison, stop St. John's" strategy. Jordan's improvement should be able to counter that somewhat. We don't even know if Keith Thomas can be anything other than a good rebounder at a Big East level. Hopefully Obekpa has worked on a post game during the off season.

I would answer you again but a self-anointed barrister here seems to work for the other side. Won't waste my time with any insight on this matter an further. Let's just say the deal is still on the table.

Barrister? Deal? What gives, man?

Makes me think St. John's could get back involved if certain things are pushed aside.

Ask Lawmanfan....He knows it all.

My guess is that he wants guaranteed heavy minutes. After his disappointing year at Cincy, he needs to show what he can do. The prospect of multiple Jordon--Harrison--Greene/Branch/Dom--Thomas/Jones--Obekpa rotations is probably not appealing to him.

Let's just move on.

On one hand, due to the baggage this kid comes with, I want to move on. On the other, it's hard to want to walk away from a top 100 forward who is eligible next year.
