Jermaine Lawrence

Seems really short sighted of JL to go to one of the other locals due to playing time concerns. Sure this coming year we are deep and mins may not be guaranteed but the following 2 years if he's any good you'd think he would be a primary scoring option. Also a much bigger stage playing Duke, Cuse, GT, Nova and Big 10 challenge.

Chemistry is critical though so if he's that selfish we need to move on. It also may work in our benefit not to have too many guys in the rotation so Lavin doesn't take 2 months to figure out who to play. Disappointed on this one but Briscoe, Diallo, and Sampson are much more important.

Diallo is a top 10-ranked player. Briscoe is top 20. The odds of both of them coming here are close to zero. The odds of one of them coming here are slim. We need to think way, way beyond these guys.

It's certainly gonna be a very, tough battle to even get one of 'em. But our chances aren't as remote, as you make it.

Not to mention, Rysheed Jordan was considered a top 20 recruit, and look where he landed.

Where is Rawdognyc so we can lynch him :)

smfh...I am stunned... I feel let down by this source and by JL...Very foolish decision that he will ultimately regret...I really want to throw this guy under the bus cuz he has ties to recruits and our university and I'm annoyed that he made me look like a fool..Sorry fellas... Won't post what I hear anymore
We appreciate you posting what you here. These kids are fickle and change their minds. Why a 5 star recruit would go to Manhattan,Hofstra or Iona is beyond me.

He'll be the go to guy. Probably score in the twenties and he will be happy. Obviously doesn't care about conference, just himself. Still has to prove himself, especially after his dismal year at Cinci. Don't blame Lavin for not promising playing time. IMHO Lawrence made a BIG MISTAKE!

Look at the bright side: this cements Greene's status as starter and he'll continue to see major minutes. :eek:hmy: For someone who was reportedly disenchanted and thinking of leaving, he better spend the summer working his butt off.

I wouldn't be so sure of Greene starting, agree he'll see major minutes however. In fact, I see Obekpa, Thomas, Jones, Harrison and Jordan as our starting lineup.

I think Lav is having a 4 year bromance with Greene
Only explanation for the amount of P.T. that he gets

Lot of chatter that Maven’s twitter rants against you know who did not exactly help grease the skids with regards to Jermaine potentially landing at SJU.

If true, that's beyond silly. Shouldn't make life-altering decisions based on anyone's twitter rants. Just an odd, odd situation on all ends.

Agreed. But I am told “she” was 100% aware of what he was saying.

Fine. But the fact that what he was tweeting affected decision shows insanity of decision makers. Can't comprehend why this young man and his family are letting her run the process, but is what it is.

Look Mike I am not making the argument I am just saying that rumor is floating out there, that’s all.

I understand. And I am not doubting the veracity of the rumor (Paultzman tweeted something similar a couple of days ago). Just opening on the insanity of it all.

The rants came after she tried to strong-arm the SJU coaches with outlandish demands. She has no business making career altering basketball decisions for this kid! The blame ultimately lies with the family that seems to have put their "faith" in her hands. A shame because if he ever learns to shoot he would be a terrific player. Absent that ability on his resume he would be one of 4 forwards who need to earn starters minutes with "earn" being the key word. Personally, I think she is the one who poisoned the well and not the Maven.

Can someone please explain to me how this person, who seems to not have any insight or inside connections wrt basketball became the one handling JLaw's recruting process? I get when it's an AAU coach, hs coach, street agent, etc., but what gives here? Why did the family give up all their power?

Also, any chance of parties reaching a detente and JLaw doing what's best for me :)

It is insane to over analyze a decision an 18 or 19 year old is making about what college he will be attending. There are issues that transcend location, staff and playing in MSG.
If the choice regarding college was logical, every player would play at a school where they would start immediately and immediately show that they are stars. Logic does not explain why players chose Duke, Carolina, UCLA, Kentucky, Lousville, etc. when the players in front of them are future lottery picks and there is no guarantee of playing time. I for one, say cut the kid and his advisor a break and let them make a choice. They already made a poor choice in Cincy, so lets hope any choice they make now is the correct one for a talented player, who needs to coaching to make it to the next level.

What team would want the circus of a documentary filming for a single player?
The better question might be who the hell would watch a documentary about a player from the MAAC that has two arms? Why stop at the MAAC...why not do a documentary on Marco Baldi at the Rockaway YMCA?

NBA teams are going to see this kid running scared from the big boys after things didn't work out. Add to that the circus of a documentary...uphill for this kid. He's not Wiggins.

Does this mean the St. Francis de Sales gym is not yet reopened?
