JaKarr Sampson

We go from being the hottest destination school to becoming kryptonite all within six months.

Sucks.

Don't know what the answer is.

The answer? Superman isn't on the sidelines now... When he's back, things will be different once again. Lavin's absence as well as uncertainty has certainly hurt our recruiting.

And the rumors just continue. One of the announcers at the garden today claimed Lavin's wife wants to move back to California.

Deloris Burke mentioned that. She mentioned a couple of rumors that have been circulating of late. That particular rumor in regard to Lavin's wife wanting to move back to Cali has been going around for over a month now.

It doesn't take long for bad news (true or not) to travel. I think Lavin is putting to rest those rumors.

I believe the announcer said that,Lavin has said he will be back and is committed to building the program. She said that after she made the comments about Lavin's wife.

Yea, I was watching on tv today; Doris B mentioned the rumor about Lav's wife, but only as an example of one of the rumors coach had put to rest by saying definitively he would be back on the sideline next year.
She wasn't perpetuating any rumors; actually pointing out how Lavin had silenced them.

Except for Moe going to the league this year. Boris has Bill Walton disease, her insights last for one play and are subject to immediate contradiction...by her.

I never believed that rumor. She knew what she was getting in to when coach took the job. If she didn't like New York and was set on living in LA coach would of never taken the job.

Let's put it this way. If our head coach is making decisions about his head coaching career based on which area his wife prefers, then he's probably not serious about the job at hand. Top notch coaches aren't making career moves based on the weather and the whim of their spouse most of the time. I don't believe this is the case and likely just a rumor. Even if she does prefer Cali, it doesn't necessarily mean much in terms of foreseeable future here.  I really think a lot of this stuff is put out there by opposing coaches to derail our recruiting efforts.

When Gathers signed with Baylor, all the fans said we needed Shepard. When Shepard signed with SDSU, all the fans said we needed to sign Sampson again. When Sampson supposedly rules us out of the running, all the fans said we needed to sign Obekpa.

And if we fail to sign him, who are we going to need to sign next? Listen, I'm holding out hope that there is a grand scheme on the recruiting front, but as of right now it seems the 2012 class is a huge failure. Signing two or three under the radar JUCO's is kind of unacceptable when your sole responsibility has been recruiting.
Your determining what Steve's sole responsibility is and speaking of huge failures and what's acceptable is way out of line. Your not his boss, and you don't pay him. Please show the man some respect by toning down your rudeness. Thanks.

I have a gut feeling that after todays game @ Kansas one of the recruits at the game will verbal. Great game and atmosphere. Wonder how many 'ships KU has left to offer. Will be interesting to see if PT comes into play on some of these decisions. SJU offers big minutes where on kansas as a freshman you will need to earn your PT.

There are going to be recruits that want to play at st john's and with the talent already here we should be fine next year and the years after.

Reliable poster, SJU79, on JJ noting we are out of JaKarr race. He notes that he has good info, not definitive proof

Funny I heard just the opposite at the game today.

Funny I heard the same thing as I was walking out of MSG today...Who knows???...We'll just have to wait and see...In meantime, fingers and toes crossed...

In any case, looking at our record, I am really impressed with what the kids have done this year...6 BE wins with 5 freshmen and no bench is impressive...we should be over .500 had we closed the deal on A&M, Nova and Northeastern

Can you elaborate at all?

Yeah, had 2 seperate people tell me today it looked to get Sampson. They are people close to the program but who knows.

I'd love to be right in it with Jakarr. In fact if we landed Jakarr and one other guy in addition to branch whomever it is, I'd be extremely pleased. I'm hoping that we are very much in it for Jakarr and not out. Who knows, maybe. Sju79 is setting us up for a surprise. Let's wait and see what unfolds.

I was just thinking the same thing. The 3 games we lost, but had a chance to win were A&M, Villanova and Northeastern. If we win lets say 2 of those we are looking at a possible NIT with a couple of more W's. So what this group has done is tremendous. 6 players for most of the year, all first year players. These players and coaches should be commended on the job they have done. This could have gotten ugly early, but every one believed and worked hard. I wish recruits would see what is happening in Queens and they would want to climb on board!!

What's more amazing is that SJU is outplaying the preseason prediction of the coaches poll and doing it with only six guys.

If sju79 says we aren't getting jakarr then move on and don't hold out hope. Just move on. I think he has only been wrong once and that was Kyle.

Let's just move on

I don't know. My gut still says Jakarr is a kid we can land. We'll see.

If we make it through this weekend without him committing to KU after the game he witnessed, then you never know. But to echo what MJ said, posters should start mentally preparing themselves to move on.

If he can't see that he'd be on the Harkless plan and get 35 mpg as a freshman, and first-round draftable after his soph year, then there's not much to say. Obviously KU sends guys to the NBA, but the minutes won't be there early.
