Isaiah Whitehead, SG (Seton Hall verbal)

We have to land this kid. Can parlay this into a big push for forwards this spring. Whitehead/Rysheed/branch and Greene would be unstoppable over next few. All signs point to SJU. We shall see...

Exactly. I think if Whitehead signs on, it's time for the staff to go after top big men who've never had us listed, as well as ones who flirted briefly. Worst they can say is no thanks. But the blueprint we have in hand is pretty impressive now if everyone returns.

We're back in it, so we might as well land him. ;)

He could be the pied-piper to some '15 kids wanting to play alongside him. I wouldn't be surprised to see the staff use that as one of their selling points when it comes to bigs in the '15 class, if they were to land Whitehead.

Remember, we're already in very good shape with Diallo.

EDIT: Good point, LJSA. We could also target '14 bigs who aren't committed. The most they can do is say 'no,' as you mentioned.

Until Lavin can bring in Top 10 recruits, his job should be in jeopardy. Who cares about top 20?

sounds like a ucla fan. haha. a nice cool crisp day should make the campus very appealing today, although when it gets colder it is windy as hell.

I am by nature a sports pessimist, but what makes me a hopeful here is that Whitehead is coming today for a visit, and making his decision tomorrow. I do feel good about ths staff having the last crack at the kid before he makes his college pick.

This isn't particularly true, as we were mentioned throughout the majority of the summer. Oh, well....

Isaiah Whitehead barely mentioned #stjbb on his list all summer & now they get the final visit today w/ one of the best closers in the biz.

We definitely do not have to land him, but I completely agree that a Whitehead commitment can be parlayed into landing a pair of top 50 forwards. You'd have to be crazy to not want to play with that kind of back court and plenty of playing time to offer.

Neither am I. His visit there went very well (he was quoted as saying he didn't understand why anyone wouldn't want to go there), it's close to home, and there's plenty of PT ... lots more than we can offer him as a frosh.

Another thing that I'm not comfortable with: IW's going to announce his decision on Thursday. Could that mean he's already made up his mind, and that today's visit is nothing more than a courtesy to his mom?

Of course, I'm always a downer when it comes to recruiting. Seems like whenever I get pumped up about a big commitment, like Jerome Lawrence last year, it never pans out. Whereas when I'm negative -- e.g., I was sure Sampson would opt for Kansas over us a couple of years ago -- things go our way.

My only arguement is unless you are Mike Jarvis and insult a recruit's family member, visits usually go very well. Even Norm had very good visits. I remember the excitement around here when we were in the final for Syl Landesberg. Many kids and parents were very complimentary to Roberts. It is hard to get that one kid to commit that will open the floodgates, when a program is trying to rebuild itself. A school like Seton Hall's (SJU was there not too long ago) biggest hook is offering a bunch of playing time because the rest of the roster isn't in the top half of the league can only go so far. Is Whitehead going to be Seton Hall's version of Harkless? We will all find out tomorrow.

His quote was wondering why more people didn't go there, not questioning anyone who didn't go there.

IW will not be going to SH.

Still better to have her show up, than to be a 'no-show.'

Coaches from 2 of the 5 schools in the Isaiah Whitehead Sweepstakes told @SNYtv they believe it will be #Stjbb. & no #stjbb wasn't 1 of them
