Isaiah Whitehead, SG (Seton Hall verbal)

Whitehead seems to be getting pressure to leave NYC

By who, his handlers? It's obvious that this kid is looking for a one and done situation where can showcase his talents and then fly the coup. Man I hate what the college recruiting game has become. Thanks coach Cal, Handlers, Street Merchants, Sneaker Companies, AAU programs, Advisors and the rest of you out for your own gain waiting to have your palms greased. The whole process has just become sickening.

I dont think hes a one & done caliber guy no matter where he goes. With Harrison returning for his senior year, Whitehead would only be a role player as a frosh, but would be THE man at SJU as a soph. Dont know if he would be in the same position to be the clear number 1 guy as a soph at Indiana

He's a one-and-done talent for sure IMO.

Me and you are in the minority here. Most think we're nuts for that opinion.

It looks like a very talented draft, though. If kids progress as expected, that might make things very tough. Wiggins is a prodigy and that PG from Australia that tore up FIBA are locks to go very early...not to mention Marcus Smart. It will be guys like Semaj Christon later in the draft that might force IW's hand to stay another year.

Think you are confusig draft years. I'm not sure on whitehead. This summer he seems to have taken it to another level.

Moose an marillac, if you could only have one player, regardless of year or team needs, whitehead or Rysheed?

Wow. That is really interesting question. Its close. Really really close IMO.

Whitehead is a street baller
He may have stepped his game up but he is not NBA ready
He's not as good as lance Stephenson and he is shorter
He's no pg in college
Minnesota may have been his best bet to show out in the ncaa
Funny how that package deal with him and Newton fell apart quicker than
House of cards in a earthquake
Newton used hun as leveraging for his own escapade
Bottom line whiteheads not athletic enough nor does his knowledge of the game in any way shape or form say he is one and done
Lincoln creates players who may make it to the NBA but they are missing that edge
And he is not better than any recent railsplitter who us in the pros
Rysheed is a true PG who was top 20
And he is not one and done
So u guys are implying he's less talented than whitehead ??????
I rest my case
One and done theory for whitehead has just been scalped!!!
Props to illscalpya3000 on jj

“@NYPost_Brazille: I was told Isaiah Whitehead's trip to Indiana went very well and Hoosiers are a legit option now. He met Victor Oladipo during visit. #iubb”

“@NYPost_Brazille: Can confirm Isaiah Whitehead will visit Seton Hall in coming weeks. Not expected to be official. #shbb”

“@NYPost_Brazille: Told it will be Indiana assistant Kenny Johnson in to see Whitehead and Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon is in tomorrow”

Isaiah Whitehead met Wednesday night with coaches from Pittsburgh and Minnesota and by all accounts, the visits went well.

"Both made him feel he was wanted with the opportunity to play right away,” Lincoln coach Tiny Morton told SNY.tv.

This is what I was speaking on in the "2014 & 2015 Recruiting" thread.

I'd love to sign Whitehead, but if he is only going to be in college for a year I'd rather get a kid ranked 50-100 who is willing to learn behind the seniors for a year. This is what Syracuse always seems to be able to do well (see MCW). Harrison as a senior will be better than Whitehead as a frosh. Branch as a senior will be pretty close and Jordan as a soph might be better as well.

IW is going to make a big time blunder and declare early for the NBA Draft.

And if this kid is only looking to pad his stats as a frosh, then I'm glad he's taking his talents elsewhere to be honest.

6'3/6'4 on a good day. D-1 is not the PSAL.

But I wish him the best.

MCW was a top 30 kid. Not too many kids ranked that high are willing to sit for a year. Cuse is on the rare programs that can get kids to buy into that deal.

MCW was #27 RSCI, true. If that part of the equation troubles you, replace with many others: Grant, Southerland, Fair, etc etc etc etc. Point is, I'd rather lose a top 15 talent who wants to stay for just 2014 if it meant we could get 3-4 years from a lower rated player in the top 100.

There are kids that will wait in line for a year for a team making a deep run in the tournament so they can take the keys to the car the next year playing alongside a five-star PG.

I don't think it ever makes sense to recruit lower ranked kids voluntarily. You have to let the chips fall where they may.
Every top 100 kid wants to play right away. And every one of those kids would also like to go pro in a year. Most of them won't. But I don't fault them for wanting it.
I agree that some guys (maybe IW) and other top 20 players, expect to be one and done. That still doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Rankngs aren't the end-all-be-all. But they are the consensus scouting report on players. Why take a weaker player, just because that better player might go pro in a year? If he does end up going pro it means he probably had an all-conference type season

The reason I don't see Whitehead coming here, isn't because he's selfish or unrealistically wants to be a one and done. It's because we're going to have a loaded backcourt.
Truthfully, there are better situations for him then sitting behind D'angelo, Branch, Jordan, Greene etc.
And, when MCW went to Syracuse he didn't know he was going to sit for 2 years. Waiters Triche and others could ahve gone pro early, but didn't. He didn't sign up as a willing backup. He was just willing to compete.

This would a great pickup for Seton Hall and I hope they sign him. Much rather see him there then Syracuse.

The Pirates aren’t done. They will host Lincoln High School star Isaiah Whitehead Saturday on an unofficial visit and are heavily involved with 100 Linden (N.J.) senior forward Quadri Moore, who is also looking at Cincinnati, Miami, Wake Forest and Temple and a consensus top 100 ranked recruit.
“They’re starting to get a little traction,” Scout.com national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels said. “The Angel Delgado commitment was a big one and arguably the biggest pickup Seton Hall has had in years.”
Whitehead, ranked 12th overall in the nation by Scout, also is considering Pittsburgh, UCLA, Minnesota, Syracuse and Louisville, among others, and would be the highest rated recruit to pick Seton Hall in years. He is intrigued by the possibility of leading the Hall back to its glory days, as the face of the program, a source said."
