Isaiah Whitehead, SG (Seton Hall verbal)

I think he would be a good recruit for the program. It would help with the 2015 class.

@NYPost_Brazille: Told the Isaiah Whitehead unofficial visit to St. John's will be Tuesday or Wednesday per source. #sjubb

Zags also reported that the visit will be on tues or wednesday

Supposedly, he's gonna commit during the early period. So, this could be where the staff essentially win over Whitehead.

I he's as good as advertised, how could he not start?
No way we have 3 better players on the team, never mind 5.

Two top 50 guards as seniors, a top 20 guard as a sophomore, top 30 senior at the wing. There will be plenty of talent but he will still be solidly in the rotation.

St. John’s has jumped back into the mix in the Isaiah Whitehead sweepstakes.
The Red Storm reached out to Whitehead’s mother, Ericka Rambert, sources said, and an unofficial visit is in the works for this week. Whitehead confirmed the visit with a tweet and a source said he is interested in what the Big East program has to offer and is wants to hear their pitch.
“Will Be Taking An Unofficial To St.Johns University This Week,” he tweeted.
St. John’s was one of the first schools to offer the 6-foot-4 standout a scholarship, back in the spring of his freshman year, and was involved until recently, when they stopped recruiting him in July. Many pegged Syracuse as the favorite, but the Orange took another guard, Kaleb Joseph of Cushing Academy, in July, and haven’t been linked to Whitehead of late.
Whitehead could team with highly touted freshman point guard Rysheed Jordan to former a dynamic backcourt for the Johnnies.
The Lincoln High School star shooting guard, a consensus five-star prospect ranked by Scout.com as the 12th overall player in the country — the highest ranking for a local product since Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson was a senior at Lincoln five years ago — took an unofficial to Seton Hall on Saturday. He recently visited Indiana as well and met with coaches from Minnesota and Pittsburgh last week at Lincoln. Louisville, Arizona and UCLA are also in the mix.
Whitehead, who led Lincoln to a city title at Madison Square Garden — St. John’s home — in March, has yet to begin to take official visits, but plans to make a decision before his high school season begins in late November.

supposedly someone sent whitehead a picture of the Seton Hall fan base that showed up to Kyle Anderson's games and he has now ruled out Seton Hall for fear that his picture could end up on the back of a milk carton

Around a month ago I've heard from a local college hoops reporter that Whiteheads mom wants him to stay close to home but at the same time she always wants him to get "the true college experience".
This isnt anything new but Whitehead's biggest priority is playing time and being one and done.

The reporter told me that Lavin backed off from recruiting IW in the summer b/c he didn't want to have the image of losing another kid in our backyard (especially since we're targeting a lot of local kids in 2015/2016).

Now that we're back in the mix, I'm going to guess that Lavin likes his chances.

This is where Lavin has showed us his worth lately. He can get that late come from behind signing. If I was any other of those schools I would be nervous with Lavin emerging in crunch time. I'd still be surprised if we land him, but at least he seems to take us seriously which is nice and hey after Obekpa and Sampson's recruitments you never know.

Great to hear this news and I hope we land him...He would get plenty of pub playing his games at MSG and with the NY media and would be a good fit with this team...Let's hope Coach Lavin and staff get this done!

I was thinking about the whole NYC area kids wanting to leave and go away to school before...part of my pitch would be to change their perspective. Have them actually think out why they want to leave the area. Tell them that since they grew up in NYC or in the shadows of NYC that they have been used to the huge market, the big lights, the big stage and all the media. Explain that just because you grew up here does not mean you have to leave it for school because some of the very best resources really are here in NYC. Ultimately it's up to him how important it is to go away, but I think many NYC area recruits grow up spoiled in the biggest market with all the national attention without realizing what a big deal it would be for someone in say Indiana or North Dakota.

A kid growing up in Beverly Hills will likely not understand just how good he has it. An NYC recruit will likely not understand just how valuable NYC is for basketball and media power.

If Lavin signs Whitehead, I promise not to complain about recruiting for at least six months!

@NYPost_Brazille: St. John's has reached out to Whitehead, they want him, source says, and there is intrigue. #sjubb

I heard the kid also reached out. Mom is very fond of the coaching staff.

Very interesting if true

Per the source, I believe it to be true.

His mother reaching out is one thing...seems logical if she wants him close to home. But it's very interesting if he in fact also reached out on his own. Word was that Lavin slowed down on the recruiting to avoid seeming like he lost another big NYC recruit...well, does this mean that he felt he had a legitimate shot and decided to go guns blazing after him? You have to think if he didn't feel totally confident he would have stopped altogether.

I mentioned this in an earlier post today. I've been told that Lavin stopped recruiting him b/c he didn't want to have the image of losing another local kid. The fact that he's recruiting him again makes me feel very confident on our chances of landing him
