Isaiah Whitehead, SG (Seton Hall verbal)

....Ultimately it's up to him how important it is to go away, but I think many NYC area recruits grow up spoiled in the biggest market with all the national attention without realizing what a big deal it would be for someone in say Indiana or North Dakota.

A kid growing up in Beverly Hills will likely not understand just how good he has it. An NYC recruit will likely not understand just how valuable NYC is for basketball and media power.

What do you mean by national attention? Outside of NYC, the university (in my experience) is relatively unknown. In regards to basketball, they have their 6-8games each year that are televised nationally, but that is no different than alot of other schools. I'm sorry, but I just don't see this great advantage when it comes to national attention/exposure.

New York is a universal stage bigger than any in America and has every resource you could dream of. If you don't think there's a big difference in terms of media hype doing well in NY as opposed to most other places in America you have been living under a rock. Broadway Joe would be a no-name in any other media market.

Has a lot of predictions for SHU. What gets me a bit nervous is he ll get more PT at SHU. If Lavin decides to go w a 3 guard line up next year ,Whitehead will get his share of PT here.

I would assume that Lavin has promised him a significant role if he's considering us now. Lavin could use the angle that we have much more talent and are ready to win now unlike SHU. Basically, Whitehead can go to SHU with a low chance of really winning much with the team around him which would negatively impact his media hype, or he can go to SJU getting some PT (probably less than SHU) with a great supporting cast that can set him up and he can do such by having a great chance to play for a ranked team at the same time. Playing for a winning team will get your name out there more than playing for a losing team even with the same stats. I would also give Whitehead the pitch that we are rebranding and starting fresh and he can be a part of our climb rather than SHU's fall or mediocrity. With Branch, Jordan, and Harrison switching Whitehead in there at times, it would seem we would be able to score almost at will. All of them can penetrate, drive, draw contact, get to the line and score. They also happen to be good passers too if Hooper is left alone in the corner or Sanchez/Sampson comes cutting to the basket.

Yeah, but he would never experience winning at Seton Hall, and in the end is still likely going to need 2 years of college before he is NBA 1st round ready.

At St. Johns he would be part of 2 consecutive sweet-16 teams, the second of which he would be the go-to guy and get much more media attention playing for a ranked, media hyped team than being the man on a losing team no one cares about. Being from NYC, he would be an all-time City legend forever if he stars for SJU during its second golden era

Hey kid, you can either be part of the 2nd SJU renaissance playing at MSG or go waste away in Jersey aka New York's red-headed step sister who figures to be a Big East bottom feeder. :)

Assuming everyone comes back and he's bigger than our returnees, I think the key is selling him on playing SF as a freshman, then moving to his natural position as a soph. Or perhaps not even letting him know that until he's on campus and it's too late to back out.

Lots of Cuse fans on Cuse boards think we have a real shot...many pick us to land him but they also think he won't qualify.

Star Lincoln guards usually manage to qualify, so lets hope he continues the tradition.

If that's the case, he should spend more time studying than visiting schools.

I don't think Lavin has to sell him as a sf. I think he has to sell him on a 3 guard line up, which would make a lot of sense if he commits. How are his academics?

If he comes we would see some 4 guard sets. This is lavin we are talking about.

If CR didn't pass we would know exactly what Lavin thinks of 4 guard sets. I miss him.

Wouldn't read too much into those predictions.

Bingo. I feel the exact same way...play your best five no matter who they are.
No inside info, but I have a feeling Whitehead commits during the visit or right after. St. John's is a Final Four caliber team next year and that kind of winning in his hometown will make him a legend.

How good could SJU be in 2015 with a backcourt of Jordan (JR) and Whitehead (SO) to go with seniors Balamou, Jones, and maybe even Obekpa and/or Sampson?

Hopefully you've bounced back from your previous prediction of Abu and Terrell ;)
