Is Obekpa Next? No! He's staying!

Obekpa returning is beyond crucial for next season. Season would go from a no doubt horror show to one where, despite losing Sampson, a solid, NCAA type of season is definitely possible.

I really do believe that Jordan will make an incredible leap in his game.. 20ppg and 6-7 assists is possible.. Coupled with Harrison in backcourt, well, I'm not sure a better BE back court is out there..

I'm positive on Christian Jones as long as the fire is lit for him to grab some boards.. I think he can be a productive , low post offensive player.

Not sure what happened to Dom this season..He was awful...

Obekpa staying is CRUCIAL

Jordan
Harrison
Branch
Obekpa
Jones

An NCAA season?
This team couldn't make it with Sanchez and Sampson.
Bottom 5 finish is on the horizon.

Really, already burying them? You don't think Jordan alone is going to make them better? The kid will be on of the best guards in the country.

Let's all take a deep breath and relax.

Amen.

Mason alluded to possibility in early March, but there has been nothing since.

He graduated and is eligible immediately, correct? Even still, that would be a nice addition but all he would do is eat into Phil Greene's minutes, no?
Another 6'2 volume shooter? Don't get me wrong, we need scorers, but it doesn't exactly help us replace Sampson, Sanchez, Obekpa, Gift.

Eligibility immediately. Have same concerns about front court needs, but I guess Mason would have value in our new "Havoc Offense".

Our offense has always been in state of havoc! LOL! This season we had two 6'9 guys auditioning for an imaginary NBA job shooting from 17 feet and the rest making it up as they went along. However, in a three guard offense which is likely, Mason, Jordan and Harrison would be a deadly combination. Lavin will tout Christian Jones as 6'8 and 230 pounds of the best forward he has ever coached and the ball will go inside to Obekpa very often as Lavin is on his knees begging him to stay one more year.

Mason, Jordan and Harrison would be a great combination. But where does that leave PGIV and [strike]Costco Family Dollar [/strike]Pointer? I can't see Lavin not giving PGIV major minutes in his senior year.

Phil would come the bench where he belongs at the start of a game. He could be a valuable 6th man. I would redshirt him and have him work on his dribbling and other facets of his game. It worked wonders for Gift! St. John's where 13 scholarships are used and 5 are wasted.

am i lost, but who is Mason and how are we involved?

Mason is Antoine Mason of Niagara, scion of the Mason clan of which SJU was blessed with the first born.

How are we involved? Marillac thought about Antoine one lazy afternoon not so long ago. That is the extent of our involvement.

This is 100% Marillac to this point. Coaches can't contact him until he announces his intention to transfer. I have heard Niagara does not expect him to retrn and that info is from a great source.

He's 6'3 210 and jacked...he'd be one of our strongest players, if not he strongest. He draws fouls like nobody's business and he takes the ball to the lane on anyone. He is not a great shooter, but over 30% the last two years being forced to take too many out of necessity. He is an efficient scorer in spite of his high scoring #s.

He's also a very smart kid and a good student according to all reports...well spoken from what I have gathered personally.

How would he fit in with Harrison?

Something tells me that Harrison likes tough players, this kid is tough, I would see no problem.

A volume shooter maybe, but he makes his bones going to the lane. I bet you hes had more ft attempts in one game than phil had all BE season.

How would he fit in with Harrison?

Harrison feeds off good players...and especially guys that take it to the basket and have a nose for being being in the right place at the right time. Mason gets in the lane and that would only open things up for Harrison. He also rebounds and d's up. He won't see 25 ppg like Niagara, but the kid did put up like 19 per game on the MAAC regular season champs before this season. I could see him around a solid 13-15 per game.

Best of all, Dom would be sent to the bench and we'd have three guys that can shoot and take it to the rack. I see him as our three and even a kid that could play the four in a four-guard offense because of his strength and the mismatch it would create on the other end.

I just love kids that play tough and and take the ball to the basket. That is Antoine Mason.

And who will replace Obekpa after he picks up his second foul in two minutes? A freshmen? Oh, I forgot we can switch to a five guard offense. Bring back the weave.

"@JayOn_1: it took a lot of convincing but he's staying. The guy really thought he would get drafted this year"

"@JayOn_1: don't be surprised if he changes his mind in the next week though, he's very hard headed"

"@JayOn_1: draft or St. John's. No transfer, he thinks he's ready now for the NBA"

All about Obekpa from the guy who broke the news.

So if we have to take a stab at it, jayon_1 is a student who is in the circle of chatter amongst the players. But Obekpa stays because he will figure out he MAKES money by staying. If he improves even a little bit more, he can bust into the bottom of the 1st round and get guaranteed money and a guaranteed roster spot for at least 2-4 years. It makes too much sense for a player on the 1st round bubble to not go into the never never land of the 2nd round of the draft.

Tell that to Sampson.

It seems that JaKarr's situation is different as many posted factors: age, not breaking into first round even for 2015 class, money issues.

We know Europe is the best way to cash in, so I see JaKarr going overseas rather than making peanuts in the NBDL. No one verified for me on jungle, but don't players with non-guaranteed 2nd round money only make around 40k per year?

any scenario in which PGIV is getting major minutes is a bad one
